JOB 225 2-channel Power Amplifier ... update ...

Matt, any involvement with Emotiva?

When i was at EmoFest this last labor day weekend, i had good talks with Dan Laufman (CEO of Emotiva) and even met John Elefante of Kansas!! What an awesome experience!!

I said i would start to design a TT for him but it was an entry level table. So many things have to be cut out to make a table that retails for $500 or so.

We are no longer in talks but i do plan to make a table with an SME 309 arm that will sell for around $4,500.

Sorry to get off topic from the OP.

Best,
Matt

More useful feedback from a pal of mine (with Audio Tekne amps):

John brought one of his Job 225 amps today for an afternoon listening session. Since my system is down and my listening room is a work in progress, I put the Avantgardes in the living room, driven by a Sony CD player, and linked with some cables from my stash. OMG!!! Without virtually any tending to vibration control, room acoustics, or whatever else we audiophiles spend our time and money pursuing (no Lampy), we achieved the best sound we have heard. The Job amp is a masterpiece! John left the amp here, citing it would be a crime to remove it from the system. I am ordering a Job 225 tomorrow and John is on the lookout for some Duo's. The synergy between the Job and Duo's is incredible. The Job amp is a "must hear" product. I've never heard anything like it. I guess some guy in Switzerland should be thanked for the referral. Lol! Thanks, Norman!

Hi Norman,
That is a great story. Here is another one. Remember I have asked about the driving power of the Job 225 for my friend's Isophon Cortina's?
min_isophon_cortina_01.jpg

In the meanwhile he has received the Job and he is so happy! I visited his house two days after the installation and I have to say that it is really impressive. Thanks Norman for sending the order link. Even without a decent burn-in period the thing is making music! What I heard is something his set never revealed: warmth, musicality, space, refinement. I think he was about to replace his speakers but right now it is that much improved that I am not sure if he has to. Incredible. Not something you'd expect under 8KEUR..
Also his fear that the Job 225 was not powerful enough turned out to be unnecessary. The little box is driving his speakers like they are toys. No signs of congestion or fatigue at decent levels. At real high levels the speakers are coloring but that is normal.
He knows that I've got the info from this forum. Since this great experience he is reading the Shark on a regular basis. He even became a member avona00.
But unfortunately he is a little shy:hi::D
Let's all welcome him by sending a short pm and encourage him to share his experiences.
Welcome to the Shark Ad!

Welcome to AS, avona00!:hi: I hope to hear about your experiences with the Job amp!

Wow, great story! My pal Bob also was looking to sell his Duo for a couple years no out of frustration, but his procrastination seems to have paid off, as they apparently have a new lease on life!

Welcome Avona00

Hello all,

Some words about my new Job 225, this amp is fantastic, my best buy ever ! qualities : speed, holographic stage, resolution, extended bandwidth, low very tight. One thing, it's very sensitive to the power cord and need a good one to do it's best.
Mine it's around 40h Operating Condition, how do you think it's a complete break ?

Yami,

Welcome to the forum! Thank you so much for joining.

You may have a little more time to go for the amp to continue getting better. Certainly after 100-150 hours you will know and it will settle down.

Joe, my Boston pals are going whole hog. One will be tri-amping his Spatial/EPhysics 2.7 setup with 3 Job amps and the other will get 2, one for his A-G Duos and the other for his Green Mountain Audio (Diamante) 2nd system. Audio-Tekne Set amp and D-sonic/Modwright go out!

They love what the hear!

Will you get the sweetcord or some other brand, like Triode, or MIT, or Harmonic tech or something else?

I love to read this. Job = Musical bliss.

I knew this would be a great combo!

I use a legion zavfino 1877 phono , it works great and the price is very affordable , like a job 225 !

best points

+ Better soundstage
+ Better resolution
+ tonal richness
+ Decrease background noise

bad points

- It is very very difficult to bend it

If anyone wants to buy my Job225 amp and matching sweet cord power cord, let me know. Its a great amp - but I just don't need five sets of amps!

Price: $1995 including shipping in the CONUS + Paypal fees.

Newly registered to Audioshark, but have lurked for a while.

Hopefully joeinid can chime in here. I think you have both an original Job 225 and a newer one with the DC protection. Is there any notable difference in the sound? Is the lack of DC protection anything of concern (I would likely be using it with some tubed preamps)?

I am contemplating either a used earlier model or just ordering a new one, primarily for the DC protection, but possibly for any other minor updates that may have been made (don't know this for sure).

Thanks.

Hi Demerara. Welcome to the forum. Thank you for joining!

I am not sure if there is in fact a "dc protection" on the amp.

JOB TECHNIQUES & ADVANTAGES

It does have dc coupling explained this way.

The JOB Amplifier is DC coupled with a new type of DC Servo Control avoiding any DC offset.
DC coupling is the only way to avoid time error in low frequencies. It avoids the usual boominess of the speakers bass response. So you get Tight Bass.

My friend bought my first Job amp and I subsequently bought 2 more. I did not notice any sound difference between original and new. I did replace the fuse with audible improvements.

I ran mine for over a month with a 6922 based tube preamp and Joe has run his with a CJ. I never had any hint of a problem, other than the limited range in the volume control due to the high input sensitivity of the Job.

Thanks for the quick replies Joe and Jack.
I had read without the DC Servo, it was unprotected from any DC leakage issues, not sure if DC protection is the wrong term? It seems the new DC servo is providing the "protection".
Good to hear there was no detectable difference in sound quality between the early and current versions.
Now just left with the decision to get the used one or a new one.
