Eric, Welcome to AS !! You will find us a quite civil bunch of friends that love music. Thanks for joining !!
Welcome to the friendliest fast growing community around. I also do not have the highest end of gear, and the nice 20 y/o stuff I have I was lucky enough to get for next to nothing or I would still be using other stuff.
What is cool is even if you cannot afford something, it can still be politely discussed. Even if you are talking about an inexpensive item, it can still be discussed without the worry of what you described in you OP.
I can remember a recent thread at AK where they were bashing the fact that people on another not to be named forum, were discussing $28k cables. I defended the thread even tho I could never dream of a purchase like that because I enjoy hearing about and learning what is out there and if it is really worth it.
Anyway, NorthStar also brought me here, Thank You, and I have not participated at the not to be named place since. All the Good Guys are right here!
Cheers!
Hello everybody,
I’ve been looking at these forums here at Audioshark for a few days and wound up kind of inspired. A few days ago I was invited to join by Rob (Ohbythebay) and Bob (Northstar) and saw that the mission title stated that it was a place for “High-End” audio folk. So I assumed it was not a place for me. You see, I don’t own any “High-end” audio that I know of. It is way out of my reach anyway and kind of makes me nervous to be around that kind of gear. Of course, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that gear or those who have it, that’s nice. It just isn’t my world. I then ran into Bob on another forum that will remain nameless. (It’s also where I know Rob from). He set me straight that I actually could join if I desire to and also extended an invite to me.
So here I am. I’m here because of things going on at that other forum that bother me and sadly, it used to be a nice place, but over the past year it has become hard to post there due to being jumped on from all directions for the slightest things such as a misspelled word or being put down because your gear is not the same as theirs or people baiting you into some sort of schoolyard fight. It just feels so repressive. There are a few good folk there, but I notice they are not around much now days.
Anyway, since I was invited to come here I guess I have some redeeming quality of some type. I’ve been in this hobby a few years, but I’m no expert and I don’t always get it right. I know what I know, but that’s about it. I’ve kept my ears and eyes open and have learned from the folk on and off forum, who know what they are doing and happy to share and teach. At my core though, is a passion and extremely deep love of music. That is first and foremost with me. I have had the love of music since birth. It was never really nurtured in my family so I nurtured myself in it. So deep is my love of music that I not only listen of course, but I pick up on what the artist is doing or conveying. (I’ve always had that ability as far as I know). I also have learned to use music as energy. I have used it to help heal and change environment, not only self, but also in groups. I’m also a musician (who’s a bit out of practice I might add).
I do strive for the best sound reproduction I can by working with what I have - whatever name you want to attach to that.
So that’s a little about me and I’ll try to be as helpful as I can, but most likely I’ll have more questions and need help than I provide. One can’t know everything because willful learning doesn’t stop unless one stops wanting to learn and then forced hard learning takes over.
Even though I’m not high-end and all that, I hope I prove myself of some use around here.
Thank you.![]()
Welcome!! I think it should read passionate or obsessed rather than High End but thats just me. I think music especially good well enjoyed music is like food. It's a must have. I also believe like you that it can be used either like or is a drug. No BS aside I use it to treat PTSD.

Yes, I have used it to help eleviate the effects of PTSD as well. There are many healing uses of music.
Lol Eric, that "snob" thread you just referred to, it's a "bacon" thread actually.![]()
* It is a popular thread because there are quite a few people who needs to express themselves, let go of their emotional feelings, counterbalance, strike the pose. ...And for others it's just a fun, humorous thread.
Anyhow, forums are places to share our opinions, and it should always be fun. ...If that fun factor is lacking somehow, time to go swimming in more inviting and warmer waters.![]()
The simplicity of life is simply in the respect of everyone; ultra rich or/and ultra poor. ...If one loses that balanced perception and life's equilateral triangle of human respect, then that one has more to learn in life.
My prayers are to the people of Oklahoma and Moore right now.
Oh, I guess I did not read far enough into the thread. Opinions are like well...you know. Everyone has one and that's perfectly alright because I for one, can not imagine life without different points of veiw. Well, that is I can imagine it actually and I don't like what I see in it. It's how the opinion is expressed where things can get murky or worse.
Hello, may I come in? What a silly question! After reading the 4 pages of your posts it is clear that you are not only someone we welcome, but someone we embrace!:inlove: Welcome to AudioShark, Eric!
