Hello everybody,
I’ve been looking at these forums here at Audioshark for a few days and wound up kind of inspired. A few days ago I was invited to join by Rob (Ohbythebay) and Bob (Northstar) and saw that the mission title stated that it was a place for “High-End” audio folk. So I assumed it was not a place for me. You see, I don’t own any “High-end” audio that I know of. It is way out of my reach anyway and kind of makes me nervous to be around that kind of gear. Of course, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that gear or those who have it, that’s nice. It just isn’t my world. I then ran into Bob on another forum that will remain nameless. (It’s also where I know Rob from). He set me straight that I actually could join if I desire to and also extended an invite to me.
So here I am. I’m here because of things going on at that other forum that bother me and sadly, it used to be a nice place, but over the past year it has become hard to post there due to being jumped on from all directions for the slightest things such as a misspelled word or being put down because your gear is not the same as theirs or people baiting you into some sort of schoolyard fight. It just feels so repressive. There are a few good folk there, but I notice they are not around much now days.
Anyway, since I was invited to come here I guess I have some redeeming quality of some type. I’ve been in this hobby a few years, but I’m no expert and I don’t always get it right. I know what I know, but that’s about it. I’ve kept my ears and eyes open and have learned from the folk on and off forum, who know what they are doing and happy to share and teach. At my core though, is a passion and extremely deep love of music. That is first and foremost with me. I have had the love of music since birth. It was never really nurtured in my family so I nurtured myself in it. So deep is my love of music that I not only listen of course, but I pick up on what the artist is doing or conveying. (I’ve always had that ability as far as I know). I also have learned to use music as energy. I have used it to help heal and change environment, not only self, but also in groups. I’m also a musician (who’s a bit out of practice I might add).
I do strive for the best sound reproduction I can by working with what I have - whatever name you want to attach to that.
So that’s a little about me and I’ll try to be as helpful as I can, but most likely I’ll have more questions and need help than I provide. One can’t know everything because willful learning doesn’t stop unless one stops wanting to learn and then forced hard learning takes over.
Even though I’m not high-end and all that, I hope I prove myself of some use around here.
Thank you.:)

Welcome!

We don't have entry requirements here.

Maybe after being here for a while, you'll decide to sell your first born and get some equipment! :D :D :D

We can always use a good music facilitator, MusicDirector.

WELCOME MD...You made it !!!

And trust me...its a warm and welcoming home...high, low, middle...it is all respected...

Oh, and as far as messing up ? Remember, I am the guy who toasted a $600 cart soldering a connector while it was still attached to the cart, broke another cantilever while installing on my new concept table AND ..I don't share this BUT

Under the platter of my DIY Record cleaning machine, is the cap to some crazy glue which I cannot get to since the platter is locked on...so once in a while I hear it roll around under there...

A warm welcome...

Rob

Hi Eric (hope you don't mind as we all know each other here by at least our first name), and a warm Welcome!

* Here's an interesting true fact here: My most high-end component are some of my speaker cables!
...And some of my interconnects!
But nothing compared to some $1,000 a foot speaker cables!

All my audio gear is less than than $5,000 (Canadian MSRP) per component.

BUT! I have for over $ half million dollars on music software.

Also, it's not your bank account, or your car, or your boat, or your house, or your sound system, or your gorgeous wife who/that dictates who you truly are and your life's knowledge.

Poor or rich, Gary and Dewey are right, there are no special requirements here to be a member (just a good person is good enough), and we're all equal in the eyes of the audio gods of the universe.

I like your first post's introduction Eric; you perfectly fits the bill! :)

P.S. Oh, if you still play records (albums), you cool. And if you don't, you simply are more modern. :derf:

Welcome aboard and remember the true definition of "hi-end" is ultimately spending more then you should because what you bought brings you enjoyment.

Hi Rob, yes, I decided to join after reading some posts from a few members and getting a good nudge from Bob (Northstar). The main nudge of course was from within and the other experiences we all know about now.
Thank you bud.:)

Hi Bob, I don't mind using my first name here having somewhat tasted of the positive waves here. That is part of what makes this site kind of unique in that it's small by member count, but that makes it like a small town where the neighbors are friendly and everyone knows each other.
I made my own speaker cables..all fancy and everything for about $40 for two 10 footers. I'm thinking of doing it again sometime.

I have quite a CD library myself although I could not begin to know value of it. I do know that I had to build two cabinets to hold them all and have only about 5 small shelves left open that are filling at a pretty good clip.
Yes sir, I have vinyl:) I love vinyl! My vinyl library is not that big (about 200+), but it's far too fun and a pleasure to listen to on my vintage system. I love to hunt for records, that's part of the fun. Cleaing records is fun to me as well...which makes me a sick pup.:D Gotta love it though.
Thank you for your welcome and encouragement.

Welcome to AS.
If you have a pair of headphone or a mega system, which ever make you happy, that's all it matter.
Music, the thing we love and enjoy.
