Gobel Divin Monarque

I personally love the look … they look imposing and I’m sure the sound is incredible.

I didn't mean to imply anything was imitated. It was meant as a compliment... that the speaker has obviously been engineered with considerable effort and thought.

Although, the mid / woofer drivers are round, and there is a waveguide for the tweeter - obviously imitating many other great speakers.

I have the Noblesse in my system and I have spent a lot of time listening to the Majestic in Germany. I very much look forwarded to hearing the Monarques when we set them up at client in July. I am trying to figure out how to get a pair for my place and the Capital Audio Fest later this year. I hope that I can swing it but we shall see.
I personally expect this to be his best ever!
 
Impressive looking speaker. I like the sound qualities of Gobel speakers. Maybe I missed it, how much are these per pair?

I spend money on parts, particularly for the tweeter. It can be quite expensive. There are various options. Right now I have a pile of copper film / foil caps from REL-CAP, i.e., "Wilson Audio Caps". I didn't buy them because of "Wilson", I bought them because it's copper foil, custom made in the values I need, and the pricing was very good - as far as "copper foil" goes. Although... they are copper foil and poly, not copper foil and paper. We will see how they work out.

The 10uF Copper Film / Poly caps from REL weigh 1 Pound EACH. COPPER.

I like soft dome tweeters and paper cone woofers... and also planar magnetic tweeters - I'm listening to 12 of them right now in a pair of Line Arrays. With the resolution from the planar magnetic tweeters I have and the likely resolution from that tweeter in the Gobel Divin Monarque, I suspect it may very well like some copper foil too. At a minimum, I've found bypassing the tweeter caps in any network with a .1uF Duelund CAST-PIO cap is helpful. "Organic Detail". That's something anyone can do, if they can get access to the network for their speaker. It's an easy thing to try. A picture of the .1uF caps I use for bypass are below.

I am sure Gobel has spent PLENTY of money on parts, and it would be interesting to know what was chosen for the inside, especially given the obvious attention to detail by the designer.

I have pair of Wilson Audio Duette with a custom network... No idea what was inside the OEM network, as it's potted.

Wilson likes to try and keep it all a mystery... but they will also sell the same caps they use in their speakers. I don't have the Duette because they are "Wilson Audio"... I'm not a "Wilson Audio Guy". I have them because they are a well built, kick ass 8" 2-way with Scan-Speak paper cone woofer and Scan-Speak soft dome tweeter. They just needed a new network to be "right", and I use copper foil on those too.

The Tweeters are from Mundorf and I do now that he uses Mundorf parts. I do not know if they are all Mundorf or which ones simply because it makes no difference to me . I am not the guy designing them and wouldn't understand.
If this is important to you I suggest that after the show this week you drop a line to Oliver at the factory and aask what it is you would like to know and He should answer you. He's a very smart guy and a very nice man as well.

Thanks Elliot, no need to take up his time, other than just being curious about what someone who pays attention to details chose. Stuff like this interests me, because I am actively building / playing with some fun stuff. More importantly, I am actually experiencing differences - and I'm putting money where my mouth is for what I am finding.

I figured he was either using Clarity Cap or Mundorf, and being German, it's no surprise that he's using Mundorf. Certainly nothing "wrong" with that by any means, and I'm sure they sound great. I think Dynaudio uses Mundorf as well. (y)

I hope the speakers are well received, and I will certainly consider your offer at $10k on the demo pair. :p

Funny, I thought the same thing. I'm $2300 into two freight shipments of empty enclosures from BFE, Wyoming. My first pair of empty enclosures and drivers was over 700lbs. Then I acquired 2 more pairs of smaller ones, built one pair out for "practice", before tackling the monsters.

I'm not crazy, you're crazy. Well... I may be a little crazy, but it's a good kind of crazy. Maybe I'll do a little thread here to show some pictures of what I have going on. It's been a lot of fun. And, there is a reason why big speakers, finished well / done right are very, very expensive. They are a LOT of work. "Paying people" to do what I am doing... there's a reason why what I'm working on doesn't exist anymore (I guess).

If you're sent pictures of these big boys from the show, be sure to share. And here I thought Vienna was just where they made those little sausages.

Just throwing this out there. I am thinking about bring the new speakers into my store this fall however to do this I need to sell my Noblesse ( ones below them) to not only have the space to put them but the funds to pay for the new ones.

Listening to the Göbel room

The closest term remains fairytale-like, in the sense of enchantment. Fairytale-like, here, means a listening experience placed in an area to which the ear is little accustomed. A rare condition, generated by the synergy between Göbel and WADAX at the highest levels, with Vitus Audio providing control, authority and reserve.

The sensation was that of a system capable of bringing every sonic event into an ordered, silent, temporally still space. The blackness between the notes had a central role. It was a base of silence that allowed the music to emerge with a clarity different from the usual. In a show, where the environment, the flow of the public and installation times always condition listening, this level of inner quiet had a particular value, even beyond the usual.

The Divin Monarque provided real scale, pressure and stability, with a physical presence that bordered on ideal perfection. The WADAX source, in the Reference Level VIII configuration, seemed to act above all on time, focus and continuity of the message. Vitus Audio held the entire system with authority, giving the sensation of an almost infinite reserve. The result came from the sum of the three brands, but also from the coherence with which Oliver Göbel had built the entire chain.


The Göbel Divin Monarque

The Divin Monarque must be read as a new step in the Divin line. Göbel presents them as a conceptual derivation of the Divin Majestic, brought into a single-cabinet format, more manageable than the absolute reference of the brand. They remain loudspeakers of extreme scale, with almost two metres of height, 380 kg per side, a front panel with thicknesses up to 105 mm, cabinet in resin-composite materials, internal reinforcements, Helmholtz resonators and a dedicated waveguide for the AMT tweeter.

In the room this architecture translated into a sense of continuous presence. The great mass became speed and perfect temporal alignment. The loudspeaker worked as the terminal point of a broader system, where digital source, amplification, cabling and power supply followed a single logic. It is precisely here that the room took a different direction compared with many ultra high-end demonstrations: the impression was that the system aimed at the greatness of the sound and at its internal, intimate and temporally absolute organisation.
