What a tease! Are you kiddin' me!!! Hey Steve, you gettin' this? :woot:

btw...one of each please. :exciting:

Yes I am on Carpet. I did place two stone slabs (1/2 inch) under the speakers, essentially to make them easier to move.I have replaced them with pexi glass sheets of similar thickness, makes it easier to move and its still a pretty stiff amount. Moving them wider seems to help a bit but the bass is still a problem.
Some material which does not have much bass sounds good but much sounds bass heavy. Did you experience this too? How did you improve this? appreciate your help on this.

I had the exact same issue. Once I put the granite slabs it got much better. I don't think that the material matters as much as long as it's something like the granite, marble or plexiglass. The next step is finding the best place in the room. For my tastes I have my D3's way out into the room, about 10' to the back of the speaker from the back wall, but again that's my room and my preference.

I also found that the amplification can make a huge difference. If I run the Merrill 400 Watt amps and there is a heavy bass track then it's too much bass. For me it's not the quantity of the power but the quality of the power. Even an amp like the little Job225 sounds totally balanced with none of the exaggerated bass that is possible.

If you have the speakers in the best position and you have the right bases under them, which you do, then imo it's down to finding the correct amplification match.

What amp and pre are you using now?

I am currently using the Jeff Rowland 825 amplifier which is 400 x2 , thru the Aeris pre dac. I have on hand the 525 (250x2) and a 625 (300x2). Maybe I will try out these combinations to check out the changes.I have the Aurender, the Mac mini and a Qsonix as the source. All cables top end kimber (1136 & 6068).Will revert with changes.

Forget the music, just the food alone makes it worth it! LoL

Very nice system! The Rowland should be great!!! But just try the lower power 525 and see what happens.

Are there plans to meet next week?

Hi Barry,

Steve and Doug aka dlb2 will be seeing Bob on Monday. I may have to work the holiday but if I can get the day off, I was planning on attending.

Steve, if you do go to Katz then please bring me a Pastrami on Rye:exciting::panic::woot:

I am using the Jeff Rowland 825 amp and Aeris pre

On my D3's when I play a certain combination of electronics (different than yours of course) I get too much bass. BUT when I play other combinations of electronics the bass turns into one of the best aspects of the speakers. In my case there is one pre that I use with 400 watt amps and the bass is way too much. I change to a different pre with the same amp and the bass on the D3's becomes sublime.

Not sure exactly if your D3's just don't like the combo that you are driving them with. Of course there is nothing wrong with your electronics, they are very, very good, but the combination may somehow be exasperating the situation.

I think that you have the D3's too close to your back wall.

Did you try the smaller Rowland amp(s) that you have on hand?
