Four Seater Convertible

Took delivery yesterday. My wife surprised me - she totally appreciates what this car can do (eg she will be using launch control). Here pix of his and hers. Last two pix are of Jenny driving with too down (with a big grin) and my son driving home from dealership with me in my new Turbo S. He was so interested in the whole process including the negotiation. He spent hours with me on this - I think he has the car bug firmly rooted now. Thought you guys would enjoy the pix and celebrate with me a great family moment.

I test drove the Jaguar F Type R and F Type S. Yes, I know they aren't four seaters...that requirement is now dropping quickly on the "must have" list. Lugging the family around is what my GMC Yukon Denali is for.

The F Type R is the 8 cylinder 560BHP (approx), AWD. Great car. Deep sounding exhaust. However, it feels heavy and much less nimble compared to the F Type S (super charged 6). If you didn't tell people, I guarantee most would find the F Type S the faster, much more nimble car. To me, the S also sounded better. More like a Ferrari and less like a Dodge Challenger.

However, unfortunately, both rode like a skateboard. I had to make a trip to the dentist to make sure no fillings came out.

I went to drive the M4 Cab today, but the demo was out until tomorrow. I did sit in one, and unfortunately all my anger and frustration for BMW came back just sitting in the car. I had a 2008 M3 and it was a complete piece of crap. I came from a 2004 Porsche and going to the BMW was like going to Dad's Buick. Big, heavy, lumbering around, problematic - by comparison. That being said, it looks like the M4 is a big step up and I look forward to driving it. The only downside I could spot was the stupidity of the gear box. Where is PARK? Why do these engineers have to keep dreaming up stupid things to fix what isn't broken?

I do want to drive the new Vette, but even though it's performance wise the best bang for the buck, by far, it still looks like it was designed by a guy who wasn't allowed to use anything but a straight line or a ruler. The giant rims also annoy me just sitting in the car. Why do we have to sit so far below the hood? Maybe if I was 6 foot, 4 it wouldn't seem that way. Not a car for the vertically challenged I suppose.

I have a feeling I'll end up back with Porsche. Probably a Carrera 4S, S or GTS. I regret selling mine and haven't driven anything better since or prior. The back seat is a joke, and isn't really much more useful than holding a set of golf clubs or a few grocery bags. The Frunk can hold a few custom Porsche suitcases from what I recall. But man, the handling was legendary. It never gave me any real problems and it cornered like a go-kart.

Mike -

All good options. As you know, I own a BMW M4 (coupe). I think the M4 cabrio is too heavy (over 4K lbs!) I really like the Jag lines and the engine sounds sublime but it terms of drive ability, your experience aligns with the reviews. If you can get a 2015 991 S, 4S or GTS you'll be very happy.

On the Vette, it depends on the color. A light silver metallic (don't know the actual color name) with a camel brown interior and same color top looks spectacular. I saw one at the Austin F1 race last year that looked great. Agree with you that the design is somewhat polarizing.

Amazing how the two 991s I just got have very different personalities. The 4S Targa is FUN. With sport mode (sport chrono) and exhaust note on it is s screamer. Best angry sounding engine I have heard. Naturally aspirated engine is fun and visceral. The Turbo S is more refined and deliberate and serious in nature. Scary fast. The Targa 4S is like a ride at Disneyland. The Turbo S is like a rocket ship to the moon. Love em both just like two children who are different. I do think Porsche reached perfection in the Targa 4S thought. Everything comes together perfectly.

You should consider the mid engined Porsches Mike. They are supposed to be amazing to drive!

If I wasn't set on a convertible (yes, I want one damn it!) - it would be the Cayman GTS all day long. The Boxster is a possibility, especially the Spyder.

Darrin - I can only imagine. The Turbo S would be my choice, but its a little beyond my budget. C4S seems like the best bet for now. C2S is nice, but the C4S is a better bet with wet roads on hot pavement.
