Did you ride today?

I got out on Monday and rode 34 miles with 1400' of climbing which isn't too bad for Michigan. Tonight I thought I'd go for a nice casual ride and ended up putting in 36 miles with 1500' of climbing. If last summer was the summer of heat this summer it's wind. It's been so windy here almost every day. About the only time it isn't windy is first thing in the morning which doesn't work into my schedule. It's definitely made me a stronger rider though so now I just laugh at the wind. :)

The wind is your friend Doug, the wind is your friend!

Nice rides, Doug! Great to hear the wind is only making you stronger. I like hills, I hate wind.

Allen, I stopped by a shop today that carries both Trek and Specialized, isn't that odd?, and I saw a Madone 5.2. It was a very nice bike! Believe it was outfitted with Ultegra and some of the usual price point components but if you're looking still it might be worth checking out.

Hey Doug,

I actually have a Trek 5.2,ultegra. I upgraded to my Giant a few years ago. The Trek is a rather plush ride, Roubaix'ish. The Giant added some stiffness while remaining somewhat compliant. If I get another bike, I'd like something stiffer still, and maybe lighter still. But not sure if that will happen this year or not.:dunno:

Cannondale Supersix :)

Well that's crazy! Ha!

You want stuff and light? How about that 12lb. Madone they came out with last year.

And by the way, usually when you want both stiff and light the word cheap is nowhere to be found!

I probably won't go to crazy, but the Supersix does sound ideal. I have to get my mountain bike fixed over the next few weekends. I'll be taking it to a shop that has Cannondale, Scott, Trek, and maybe a few others. But no Specialized!

CAAD10s are great bikes. Very light for an alu frame. My friend has one.

Have you heard of Titus? A small American brand that went out of business.:( They made great bikes. I definitely don't use it as often as I should.

Oh yeah Titus did nice stuff. I'm surprised they didn't get swallowed up by a big company. The guy who started Titus founded Pivot cycles. They make some nice bikes too.

So today I opted to test my mid-summer form and ride up a steep but short climb to the top of a visitor center at a Hydro-electric plant nearby. It starts as a 9.8% grade and quickly moves to 12%. The length is a quarter of a mile.

A view from the top.

One more.

It doesn't look too bad in the pics! Well I made it up with much less of a struggle than last year so I feel pretty good about that. There's a bridge down below that's exactly 10 miles from my house and usually takes me about 43 minutes to ride to. Today I did it in 32. So it was a damn good day today!

Just started riding again after a foot injury sidelined me for nearly a year. Loving getting back on the bike. Did about 10 miles today and hopefully will continue to increase my endurance over the rest of the summer.

Amazing how what seems like a small injury can make cycling very difficult. I will overcome!

That's great JJ. Glad you're able to get back to doing something you love. Ride on!

Do you like those better than the Enve wheels Dan?

Never tried Enve, not even sure it is distributed in Canada. My Easton's are 6 years old with well over 20,000 kms on them including rain, riding in gravel roads, climbing. All I can say is that I love them, only issue is one bearing I replaced this spring. My wheels have the steel bearing whereas the newer ones have ceramic which doesn't last as long. In any event when they need replacing go for steel. Rolling resistance of steel vs ceramic, just can't feel it.

I loved them so much that I bought a 90mm pair for my TT bike.
