Know I'm late to the party --about 20 years worth -- but was given this MOFI album at Axpona and am loving the hell out of it!

One of their best. The song "The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegroove" will do it to you which is my favorite track on this LP.
You like this one? Get your hands on Toward The Within too. I have the LP and DVD of that one. It's a live concert.
Their self-titled LP circa 1983 is completely different, it's more a rock album. It's a interesting thing to note though, going from that to the later heavier world-influenced music they did and the emphasis on vocals or more exact usinging the voice as an instrument as opposed to just singing lyrics. Lisa Garrard's range is something of a scientific wonder.
Amazing musicianship with this group too.

Better late than never.

Myles-And I thought you said you didn't 'get' Dead Can Dance. I have the exact LP you showed above and I enjoy it.

I can't get into Dead Can Dance for the same reason I don't get Portishead, Raidiohead, Flaming Lips and others of similar strange/off melodic bent. I really wanted to like Dead Can Dance and Massive Attack since their recordings are supposedly top notch....but I can't stand to listen for even a minute.

That's a great album, Myles! Was just playing it over the weekend. I need to find the MoFi lp. The 4AD pressing is supposed to be pretty good, but big $$.

No need to sweat it. Everyone resonates differently with different music. Diversity in music or to para-quote a wise man that recently passed if I may: Infinite diversity in music in infinite combinations is the essence of our lives.
Imagine if all we had was one type of artist. That is the scariest thing ever! If we all liked the same thing there would be no diversity, no choices in anything, basically it would be a Orwelian utopia which is something we fight to prevent on a daily basis as it is already. Just like with other things that feed the soul, you have to go with what resonates with you.

Great CD Myles Dead Can Dance - Into the Labyrinth. I have the CD version sounds great! I also have 3 of their other albums. In Concert, Anastasis and Within the Realm of a Dying Sun.

I have four of their recordings and that's my favorite, both for sonics and music.
Nearly played it to death when it was a go-to demo in my retail days. Nearly.
I'd like to hear the Mo-Fi; bet it's good. I have the 4AD lp and SACD but even the redbook cd sounds impressive. Evocative, moody, like the soundtrack to an opium dream. Glad you're enjoying it.

Kind of reminded me of the soundtrack to Helix! :)

30 years Myles, but better late than never. :celebrate008_2:

Great band, have all their albums from the start on vinyl.

This is prolly my fav, but they have plenty of excellent albums.

Miles, hows the first track... I have two copies, on one there is this nasty hyyyccckkk hyyyccckkk hyyyccckkk, mostly in the left channel, for the first couple of minutes on the first track. I bought a second copy and its still there, just quieter. Fixing to send it back until I get a clean copy.

Hmmmmm. I didn't notice it on my copy and played the first side twice last night.

20-30 years late? Nah, you discovered this band at the exact moment in time that you were supposed too. Good for you Myles, you could have your head buried in the sand and still be listening to the same old stuff that you did in high school. There's a whole world of good music out there to be discovered by each and every one of us.

Except for classical that is... :snicker:

Nice vinyl! I've seen DCD many times. First time, UC Berkeley at the Zellarbach. Fantastic show. DCD, Perry, Gerard, Cocteau Twins... just about anything from the 4AD label is great. Favorite compilations: Lonely is an Eyesore and This Mortal Coil.

Great album - a 'The Carnival is Over' has always been my go to track. I have a copy on vinyl and I've never heard the SACD does anyone have a verdict on how they compare?
