Audiophiles without a dedicated listening room — what drives you nuts?

Where do you live that your house requires two separate radon systems?
You just had to take me back there. My house was built on top of an old Radon Factory, woods plowed under for houses. When they came out and measured, I had very high readings. They came up with a plan that was agreed on but the day of the work they decided to try something else as it was less work for them I suppose. Well, the readings only went down by half so they had to come back and do what they were originally going to do. That brought the numbers down where they should be.

My house has a crawlspace under half, and a slab under the other half where the garage and family room is. They first laid down thick plastic over 6" PVC piping with holes in it to draw from the crawlspace. The second fan is for where they had to jackhammer and dig into the slab from the crawlspace.

I was not real happy with how it went but only paid for the initial work but ended up with 2 fans.

Sorry to hear that. I live in NE TN and radon testing is mandatory for all home sales. My house passed the test when I purchased it, but I decided to add a radon mitigation system to drive the radon levels as low as possible.

The good news is that you can't hear my pump inside my house. My stereo room is upstairs and on the opposite side of the house from where my pump is located.

They were very quiet when new, but are mounted to the side of the house so I get some transference of vibration. I will isolate them better when I replace them.

The installer is supposed to install rubber dampers to minimize energy transfer from the pump to your house.

They are there but now hard and also attached thru vinyl siding. It's not horrible but for those like us that hear all the distractions, it's there.

Radon is no joke. Even if you don’t think you have a problem, have your house checked. A couple I know were recently diagnosed with cancer. They found high levels of Radon in their home and believe that Radon is what caused it.
There are fairly inexpensive radon measuring devices that you can buy online. Cheap insurance.

Did they both have lung cancer?

Hey all, Joe here; fellow audiophile, currently squeezing a system into a room that very much was not designed for it.

I'm talking to people in the same boat to understand the real-world headaches of listening seriously in a shared/living space: room treatment fights with the partner, speaker placement compromises, neighbours, WAF, gear that "should" sound better than it does, etc.

Not selling anything. Not a survey. Just a 10-minute call where you tell me what actually annoys you. I'm doing this as part of my bachelor's thesis and hoping the output is something genuinely useful for the community.

Looking for 10–20 people. If you're up for it, drop a comment or DM and I'll send a couple of time slots.

Cheers,
Joe

My listening room is actually a multi-purpose room that must also serve as "formal" living room for family & guests on frequent occasions -- IT SUCKS BIG TIME!! I'm compelled to sit a bit too far from the speakers and room treatments are out of the question.

The best news I've had in awhile is that creating and implementing a FIR convolution file goes a remarkably long way to correct/compensate for room and speaker shortcomings. It's the biggest improvement I've made in my system in many years.
