Another Hypex NC-500 based amp unveiled

Now Mike, why do that when you can simply speculate that all Class-D amps suck?

I thought we all sharks frowned upon speculation as to sonics without actual experience around here? Maybe not so with something as vile as Class-D though? Oh wait, maybe it's the price point thermometer....after all, the Devialet threads were non stop last year and before but that product line runs from $8k-$20k for entry.

What am I thinking.....price ALWAYS equates to sound quality.

Well, first, Devialet is not class D. It's a proprietary A-D hybrid and any Devialet includes amp, preamp, gorgeous remote, 24/192 PCM and DSD DAC, killer phonostage, complete configurability, SAM tech, etc. Still think we're comparing apples to apples here?

And no speculation here. I've owned two class D amps. They sucked so bad, they scared me off.

I've heard many of the leading Class D amps at the shows.

Now, where did I put my WE300b's?

When Devialet says Hybrid, all they are doing is biasing the IC opamp based input buffer into class A. The Sparko and Sil994 based opamps in the Nords run in pure true class A, and and made from much higher quality discrete transistors.

Send me one of these miracle amps to try. I'll keep an open mind. Small size, powerful, minimal heat. Hey, what's not to like?

If people can buy a world class amp for $2000, just think of the budget that leaves for speakers!

But I'm guessing, price has nothing to do with it.

When Nelson Pass starts building Class D amps, I'll pay attention. Oh, and don't give me any nonsense, he gives more knowledge away for free than any of these new guys and their class D amps.

Wow, I guess I got told.

Order 1 up from Nord. However I would really love hearing this new buffer so I can make sure it sounds good as mine before recommending it. It's very easy to mess up the buffer. And without seeing measured results, I'm still skeptical. But nothing would beat hearing them for myself. I've gone through about a dozen buffer circuits with these amps so far.

Nelson pass will never build class D. He likes making money :)

I like to try one if there is money back guarantee if I'm not satisfied with the sounds.

We just have to keep things in perspective. Class D fanboy loves to skew the facts (and never shows us his system or any meaningful comparisons or even pics).

When I start seeing world class guitar players using Class D guitar amps, I'll raise an eyebrow of interest.

You are sooooo wrong. Nelson has done more for the DIY community than anyone. All for FREE.

Why do I get the feeling that Class D amps are like the old days of "build your own computer"?

If your not satisfied with the sound, simply change the input buffer opamp. Anyone serious about these amps i would get like 5 sets of different opamps to try with them right off the bat. It will add like $200 to the cost.

It takes 2 seconds to change the opamp. Easier than changing a tube.

Devialet has two amplifiers working in parallel; the voltage amplifier is class A, while the current amplifier is class D and is slaved to the class A voltage amplifier, which in turn cancels the ultrasonic noise of the class D amp, hence no low-pass filter required at the output like in the rest of class D amps.

Yes similar to every NC-500 implementation out there. Only the better ones use discrete class A input amps.

Guitar amps are musical instruments for creating music. Totally different application than amps for playback. Amps for playback must be made for accurate reproduction in order to hear how the musical instrument sounded from the mic feeds.
