Amps for Raidho D3's

Hi Jock, if my own experience with a number of Rowland amps released in the last 10 years served as indicator, I conjecture that Continuum S2 will continue to sweeten and bloom well beyond the 300 hours mark... I would not be surprised if it reached peak performance somewhere beyond 1000 hours... Do keep us posted on its behavior driving X3.

MrAcoustat, I see used Rowland M9s on Audiogon from time to time, with prices ranging from new Continuum S2 to new M625... Outwordly, this seems a good deal... My concern is that while M9 might have the sweetness of the current breed of Rowland amps from Continuum S2 upwards, I am not sure if M9 would equal them in harmonic richness and transparency.

Guido

I will also add.

I received a Rowland S2 integrated Sunday and it sounds very very good with my Raidho D3s. A little lean for the first day and last night it sounded a little fat. I was told it will take 300 hours to really sing. So another 10 days and I'll let you know.

My first impression is that it is a GREAT value and can hold it's own very well. I bought it for my office system that I'm going to use a Lumin A1 and the Raidho X1s. I'm hoping for a killer little system.

Great to hear, Jock! I love Rowland products. I haven't tried any of his newer designs, but would love to find an integrated one day...

I understand what you are saying Guido BUT the HARMONIC RICHNESS in the new products that's what scare's me just a bit, to much detail is like not enough. the older Rowland's are sweetttttttttt.

Hi MrAcoustat, just a few weeks ago there were a couple of Model 9 units offered on Audiogon at:

Search Results for "rowland" | AudiogoN - The High-end Audio Community

Right now the closest amp being offered is a late version of the Model 8, named 8TIHC... It's the version of M8 with double output transistors... I am sure that some M9 variant will show up again before long.

Guido

Yes Guido i always check those ads BUT Audiogon is in the good old USA and once they cross the Canadian border OUR sharks ( Canadian customs ) take their CUT and it is no longer a good deal free trade is only for the rich NO way for normal people to benefit.

Hi,

regarding the Rowland Continuum S2 remember to buy the intenal DAC... that DAC make the S-2 sounding as it has been made in Heaven... Rowland have really put in a world class DAC in this product... :)

That's the one thing I just couldn't stand about living in Canada. Such BS. I remember buying USED products from the U.S. and getting clobbered with duty. On new products - I understand. But used? Come on.

Hi MrAcoustat, Check with Angie at American Sound in Thornhill / Richmond Hill (Ont.)... Angie distributes Rowland in Canada... She sold me my first Rowland... A pair of wonderful used 7Ms Mk.4 back in 1998... I was hooked from the first moment I heard their music making. She might have some interesting classic Rowlands available.

Hi Paul i have been buying all of my cd,s from outside Canada for the last 8 years my two main sources are - - - CD Universe - Your Online Music and Movie Store and for second spot - - - Amazon.co.uk: Low Prices in Electronics, Books, Sports Equipment & more - - - i know that this is hard to believe but it's cheaper to buy from Amazon.uk than Amazon.ca first the choice is much better and shipping is not to bad the secret is not to order more than five cd,s at a time that keeps the parcel small and they pass customs more easely i also order very often newage music from Steve Roach store direct - - - Steve Roach Mail Order - - - great prices and service.

SORRY BACK TO THE TOPIC.

I heard the Raidho goes well with Tenor Audio 175S

Did you hear this combo? I'm really interested how tenors work with raidho. I have much decidec about electronics (all tenor) now looking for speakers.. Von Schweikert or Raidho..

Sorry to say André but if the the unit is built in North America it is covered by Alena, hence only GST and PST apply.

Thank you RedSectorA, if i go with mono blocks it will be Jeff Rowland BUT if it's a stereo amp it will be for sure a Plinius, i am 68 years old and the best system that i have heard was with Acoustat DIY Spectra 8800s with a Plinius SA-250 MK1V amplifier UNBELIEVABLE.

Before you make up your mind (D3 are quite a significant investment), take a plane and visit Rhapsody Music & Cinema (Bob Visintainer) you will not regret it. I had some of the brands your are considering and celebrate my decision of changing to Absolare every single day I enjoy music.

Hi Carlos,

The D3's driven by either the Kondo Kagura (50W SET's) or the Absolare SET's don't work in my 17' x 35' X 11' overly dampened room. I know that in a smaller room there is not an issue, but in my room it's either an Absolare or Kondo tube pre with Goldmund SS amps that work best with the D3's. In my room you need at least 100 tube watts to be able to realize the full potential of the D3's.
