About to pull the trigger on Tannoy

To anybody looking for a high efficiency ( Above 96 db) speakers out there. You will be really surprised by two things.

1. You will be surprise how much you are missing that you suppose to be hear on recording ( details ) regardless of any method software you have.

2. You will be surprise how little changes can make different sounds and short coming on your gears.

Paul,

You had me at hello :)

I am intrigued.

How was your experience with Cornwall ? I don't know if I told you I had a Cornwall for short period but it was totally different experience than my Tannoy Westminster or Canterbury for that matter.

I agree Paul. There are lots of good papers out there on the benefits of high efficiency speakers.

I think this thread is going to last forever :D
Ha! :D
My advice is find the fastest most dynamic pre-amp that you like & then mate it to the amps of your choice. Valves are anywhere you wish to have them but my guess will be ss pre & tube amps.

I loved the Cornwall but now am looking for a little more refinement. I have to believe Tannoy might be it. I still have Strads on the brain, but if I can hear the Tannoy properly setup, I might be convinced to consider them. I look forward to Mike's report on what he hears on Sunday.

Paul, I actually ran an ARC Ref5se for a while with a pair of 275's. It was a big improvement over the Mc 2300. I was never impressed with the 2300 as the sound was rather sluggish and muddy.
The Ref5se cleaned it up considerably. Sound was much more coherent and dynamic. The Ref5se is an excellent preamp, one of the best in its price range

That said after listening to a Shindo preamp I was completely blown away. So very musical!

As soon as I got delivery of my Shindo stuff the ARC and Mc gear were sold, never to return.

Not trying to stir the pot even more but when you decide to change your digital source to a really good DAC all the upgrades you are making will sound dramatically better. The difference in sound quality will be HUGE!

I'm so glad you are seeing the way with efficient speakers. The fluidity with which the music comes through, effortless and unforced is truly magic. My next trade up will be even more efficient 16 ohm Shindo or Auditorium 23 speakers. The moment I have a dedicated room like yours they will be on order.

JJ...Thanks. What kind of interconnect cables are you using ? Wish the Shindo has a balanced input and remote.

P.S:

1.Aren't you going to upgrade your pre anytime soon ??? :D
2. Have you heard the Shindo Monbrison ?
3. What amp ( shindo lines ) would you recommend for me ?

What does that mean ? You trust Mike's ears but not mine ? :P

I am using Shindo interconnects and A23 speaker cables. With my previous systems I was using Transparent IC's and speaker cables.

Shindo does not use balanced because RCA in short runs sound better. I know many will disagree with me but balanced cables in short runs are absolutely unnecessary. Maybe in recording studio they make sense but RCA will ultimately deliver better sound.

No, I will not be upgrading my preamp anytime soon. I love it! Best preamp I have owned.

Yes, I have heard the Monbrison. It is an excellent pre and very musical.

Based on the fact that you seem to love the KT88's sound you may want to consider the CCQ's mono's. I believe they are KT88 driven. Push pull, 70 watts class A at 8 ohm's. Your speakers will be in heaven. Jerome has them and has written many times his love for them.

As for a remote, well you can't have everything. Gotta get some exercise sometime. If you ever decide to venture into tt land you will get up every 20 minutes anyway, haha.

J.J .... Thanks a lot. Forgot to ask you couple of more.

How is the noise level on your gears ?

I hope you're kidding! We have a lot of the same gear.
