whats your preferred/main......

Preferred? R2R (by a large margin)

Most used (by a large margin) - digital/streaming

My vinyl has taken a major backseat after getting the MSB Cascade/Pink Faun (with fiber) combo.

Mostly ripped music on a NAS, second would be streaming via Tidal. Getting geared up to put vinyl in the light more often.

TT , R2R , Streaming /CDT* are my preferences ..

Play mostly Server (NAS) /Streamer , for new music and convenience, LP /R2R when i really want a treat or bought new stuff…

Regards

* Depends on digital format CDT can be superior ..

What is CDT?

Digital is so easy. And most of the music I listen to is only on Digital. I have been seeking out stuff I never heard. I'm in one of those place where the stuff I know is of less interest at the moment.

"whats your preferred/main......" listening source and why, do you prefer r/r, vinyl, cd, streaming, etc

Preferred by a good margin: 15ips and 30ips reel-to-reel tape!
Why?: It is effortlessly dynamic, realistic, and complete when on a great sounding system

Main source: Vinyl
Why?: I have more of it and it sounds closest to tape.

Utility/warmup source: Digital (physical media or streaming)
Why?: Convenience, general playback, and discovery.

All three source types sound very good and can easily be played for enjoyment at any time without concern.

Nice problem to have..."lemme see, should it be 30 ips tape today, or?" I kinda miss having a R2R, I still have a number of 15 ips tapes I'm hanging onto until I retire and can commit more time, and esp money to the endeavor.

A good R2R playback machine is not much money. A Otari 5050 with the head wired out to a $5000 NAB/IEC plays tapes just fine. The cost is the tapes. If you have the tapes, your basically there.

I had a Technics RS-1500 w/ JRF heads wired out directly to a deHavilland 222 and sold it as part of my divorce liquidation. I should have just kept it at one of my bros' houses. If I get back in the game, my sights are on an ATR-102.

Hey Rob. I have to admit it's a good problem to have!

Hold on to those tapes and enjoy the time with them when you retire if not before.

BTW: I'll be planning a trip to your neck of the woods real soon.
