What's Your Favorite Lampizator Output Tubes?

Ken, the "low" tubes are a bit of a crap shoot. Shuguang, Psvane, some Russian tubes like the Gold Lion 300b's, take your pick.

For medium, KR Audio, Takasuki and Elrog (if you dare risk it). I picked of KR because their tubes, especially the PX4 and 300b are awesome, the company stands behind its product with a 1 year warranty and they haven't suffered any production issues - quite the opposite, their QC process is excellent.

For High, vintage WE300b all day long.

Thanks Mike, your response is greatly appreciated!

Ken

oh, and Ken, we can't forget Emission Labs for the "Medium" category. Very good things from them too.

I have a long memory and will have real issues ever buying KR again.

Did they have unreliable tubes? If so, which model?

Hugh said this at ACircle:
Do NOT get the big KR Audio tubes.
They are not reliable.
We had to return a few 845 tubes to The US Distributor so we know for a fact.

On the other hand, their 2A3 and 300Bs are very very good.

They were PX25s and they died horrifically. They were under warranty, but the warranty was not honored and the contact attempts got me no responses.

Hi Guys,

My Raidho D3's produce a lot of mid to upper bass and my system is built upon minimizing this bass. What tube brands and models would you recommend to not add any extra mid to upper bass to my system? I listen to a lot of jazz so I prefer a smooth sound as well.

Thanks so much,
Ken

Hi Ken, I think answers to such questions will mislead you. You should really see the differences yourself. If it helps, the UK lampi distributor was a jazz reporter and he prefers 101d replicas and Eml globe 45s, followed by some 300bs, but then these are the usual suspects for all anyway. Also you are limited only by your budget in upgrading tubes, e.g. If 101d replica was your preference over AVVT 300b, upgrading to WE 300 NOS might change that

Try the 45 vintage globes like Cunninghm CX-345 and RCA UX-25. Also try the NU brand 45 ST shape from the 1950 and CX301 (very cheap on Ebay, but get several, as they are not reliable). They were like $15 a pair...

For recti descriptions, google : the sound of a rectifier.

Thanks for the response guys. I'm not too familiar with the 45 output tubes but I've read the the 101D replica was one of the more linear tubes. With the D3's warmth at certain frequencies, linearity in components and cables is paramount.

Best,
Ken

I would have though you wanted midrange lush tubes that didn't emphasize the frequency extremes.

EML mesh plate 45 is a lovely tube, and you should pick up some expensive 6A3 to try, as they are well balanced…and occupy the middle ground.

This is exactly what I mean. I don't think they are linear at all, and after having had many tube discussions and seen reactions of different people to different tubes, I really don't think you should use any of these tips to guess what you might prefer. You should get the 101d replicas and a good 300b, and check your preference

If I get the Lampi GG, I would probably get it standard with the Psvane WE 101D replicas and see how I like them. Then I would try tube rolling with 300B and 45 or 6A3 (if I get the SE GG).

Thanks,
Ken
