What's Your Favorite Lampizator Output Tubes?

Bonzo,

Any word on your ST shaped 101s? Want to know what you think.

I am itching to get a GG, so I decided that I would toss in a pair of VT-52 Western Electric tubes if I come to agreement with a person in the next two days. Pairs are really hard to find and go for $500+. Hope that entices someone.

Shawn

Hi you will have a bit of a wait. They are nicely packed, I still have to get adapters, and I don't have a balanced. I am going to go over to the UK distributor's place to compare my valves with his, as he also has 101D ST shaped, but that will take a while since I can only do weekends, and quite a few booked out.

So these are the WE tubes I have:

1 matched pair WE 300bs NOS with US Army label (1947 vintage. Also have a 1972 I need to find a mate for)
2 pairs WE 275As
1 pair tennis ball 101Ds
1 pair ST shape 101Ds (with a spare).
1 pair VT52s (the throw in with the DAC if I get it sold).
2 422As NOS
1 274b

Yeah, I need help... No, I am not selling any unless they go with the DAC, and most of them are off limits.

If you want great sound a bit cheaper, search for Brimar 6A3s. They are great.

SO, comments on 300bs vs tennis 101ds vs ST 101Ds - I assume the latter two sound similar?

They are similar, though there is a little difference. Could also just be that it is transconductance difference. The tennis balls test NOS, but not as high as the ST shape ones. The 101Ds are sort of like experiencing every detail of a piece of music. It's really like you hear every single part of the recording. It is still musical, but it is more clinical. I use this with Seas Exotics based speakers and it sounds great. The details are all there and you can hear absolutely everything top to bottom.

As to the 300b, they are more engaging and almost as detailed. The midrange just explodes from the speakers in a way I never anticipated. You just cannot stop listening. Yes, it may sacrifice a very little bass and detail, but you do not miss it because of how realistic the instrument reproduction is. It really is how it should be. Not sure how else to describe it. The acoustic guitar is just magic.

Now, are they worth the cost difference? Probably not, but man that is hard to call.

Within the med price range ( $600 +/- ) what tubes work well for the B& focusing primarily on :
musicality
3-D sound stage
some -midrange bloom
unetched detail
I listen to female vocalists, piano, jazz, some club, guitar, some chamber and minimal orchestral
I am considering the EML 45 Mesh plates
Anyone with experience with the TJ 300b? Which one
Thoughts

JAB,

Don't forget, the rectifier is just as important to adjust the sound.

Hi Joe,
For a start I am planning on using the std 274b Chinese tube that Lukasz includes-heard it was good
Congrats on the 211 and your new balanced Lampi !

Thank you Joel, that's a great tube! You will absolutely love the Big 7. Even my cheap (inexpensive) 300B's are pretty awesome. Please keep us updated.

Try to land a pair of 275As from Western Electric or some Sylvania Green Leaf 6A3s (less than $200 per pair).

Another strong recommendation I'll make is for the KR Px4 tubes. These are the other tube fluctuating in and out of my first and second place. They offer most of the presence and holography of the Western Electric 275as but add scale and dynamics to the mix. They aren't quite as magical with small scale intimate vocals and stuff (but very close) however they are more versatile overall and the stage and imaging is really great. I hear sounds coming at me almost from my rear with these.

Check em out!

I became a KR Audio dealer last week. These are awesome tubes. Very reliable too. They make some real cool looking amps as well.

Hi Mike,

What are your favorite new output and rectifier tubes for the balanced GG now? Do you have a favorite for high, medium and low price? Do you still have the Elrogs and did you have any issues with yours?

Thanks so much,
Ken

Good to hear that as I ordered my golden gate with the kr px-4!

Awesome to hear Mike! Youve got some awesome sq with that brand! Great mojo with the Lampi gear for sure.

Yes, Bill you have ont regret it. Just give a few days for everything to start burning in before applying judgment, then you'll be cooking with gas.

Ken, the "low" tubes are a bit of a crap shoot. Shuguang, Psvane, some Russian tubes like the Gold Lion 300b's, take your pick.

For medium, KR Audio, Takasuki and Elrog (if you dare risk it). I picked of KR because their tubes, especially the PX4 and 300b are awesome, the company stands behind its product with a 1 year warranty and they haven't suffered any production issues - quite the opposite, their QC process is excellent.

For High, vintage WE300b all day long.
