What's Your Dialect?

I took the test three times (had numerous different questions) and each time came out with New York dialect, but I'm proud to say I do NOT have a New York/Long Island accent. People have often thought I sound more like a Connecticuter. :D

My results:

-Omaha
-Lincoln
-Portland/Vancouver

I am originally from Central Ohio, so I would say that is pretty close. ;)

My map came out red, except for the New England states. I was raised all over the U.S., except for New England, as my dad was in the military. Pretty accurate. One of the cities listed for me was Austin, which makes sense, as I have spent over 15 years here.

Did you grow up in Montreal, Bob?

Yes Matt, I was born near there, raised around there, went to school and college near there (50 clicks), partied there often (Vieux Montreal), worked around there (many jobs), lived there for almost twenty years (more if you count all my later visits), traveled to various parts of Quebec (La Belle Province), and of course I'm 100% French speaking Quebecois Canadien.
{Now living in British Columbia for almost forty years; close to twenty on South Vancouver Island - near Victoria.}

* That test was fun. :) ...Everyone should map himself out. ...And more than once (I'll do it again soon).

It figures
New York
Newark
Philidelphia

Could they get any more centralized? LOL

Actually, I don't have a strong NY accent at all but certain words - we say pocketbook, not handbag. we say caty-corner not kitty corner. And if you hear chop meat instead of ground beef, that dude is a New Yorker...LOL

I beg to differ. I figured you came from the NY area as soon as I heard you speak on your turntable setup guide. :D

I've been told that I have a fairly strong midwestern accent by a few people. We get a lot of people from Illinois at my work and it's very easy to tell if they are from the Chicago area or are from central/southern Il; they sound completely different.

Wadda you sayin Matt? You think I tawk funny ? Huh ? That is a "soft" NY accent. When I turn it on (at work in Redmond WA) dose guys swear I am connected...Kabeesh ? Bada Bing Bada Boom ..I am outta here

Now I get it! My wife always tells me…... "It's not what you say…it's how you say it."

Rochester NY
Buffalo NY(born and still live in Niagara Falls approximately 20 miles from Buffalo).
