What's the most you have spent for a vinyl record?

It's a phrase used by (and possibly coined by) Tom Port of better records. Basically he offers a service where he buys a boatload of different original pressings of a particular album. Then he cleans them, listens, picks out the best sounding ones, looks at the stampers in the deadwax and looks for trends. The great sounding stampers get label "hot" "white hot" etc.

Completely arbitrary system. I only bought two and then decided not to partake any longer. They sounded really good but can be purchased a lot cheaper with a little work on your own.

I haven't bought an LP since 1994, or maybe it was a little before that. It's been CDs or SACDs since then.

There are two things I can affirm. First, that the are good sounding CDs and bad sounding CDs, just as there were good and bad sounding LPs. Secondly, early CD players didn't sound so good but the next generation were much better; today there really isn't an issue with digital sound.

If you like the sound of vinyl better, fine. But I suggest you suggest you rip you LPs to digital and seen how very much like the vinyl the digital rips sound. The difference is essentially all in the mastering.

Okay, so what's the most you ever paid for a CD?

Soundgarden Screaming Life Sub Pop Orange Vinyl. Only 500 made. I paid less than stated price of $125.00 of $100.00. Purple vinyl I paid 75.00

Sub Pop 100 $75.00

Sub Pop 200 $100.00 ( I have 2 copies)

Green River Sub Pop $75.00

I have other vinyl I paid 50-100, but my Sub Pop collection is my pride and joy.

On the search for Nirvana Bleach Sub Pop, but difficult to find.

I've had a couple of misses lately with poor vinyl grading. When you spend the dollars, you expect to get an accurate grading.
