What was your best Audio Purchase of 2015?

Besides my music and all my McIntosh Branded gear-- products that exceed the hype, and there is no shortage of hype and falsehoods in Audio.

I'd have to say Roon Labs Music software.

Which product(s) did you try that you felt were "hype" and "falsehood"?

Anything HDTracks and Acoustic Sounds- "High Resolution" downloads are no value added.
-No Back up
-No Provenance
-No difference from CDs or a Clean Record
-Repurchasing the same music, with no tangible benefits
-Purchasers are "hydrating the hustle" of "audiophile stuff."

My best audio purchase of 2015 were my walnut Raidho D3 V2. I never thought I would own loudspeakers of this caliber.

Bill, which D/L sites out there give you true high resolution quality?

My Luxman DAC and on the cost to performance ratio, my Uptone Regen.

Adding the Bug Head computer program also made a huge improvement in sound.

For me, as much as I liked the ARC Ref 5SE, was to get the DAG Pre to play with the DAG Amp. The synergy is fantastic!

Second to that purchase would be the new Shunyata Sigmas. These power cables are excellent.

For me it is the Lumin S1, and, like Mike (Ritmo), the Shunyata cables (power and speaker in the HT), along with upgrading the Triton and Cyclops to v2 have made this year very musically satisfying.

Avantgarde Zero XD - a delightful surprise and game changer...

There were other good ones too:

- Plixir BAC-3000 3kW balanced AC conditioner
- Line Magnetic LM219IA
- Sablon Audio Panatela interconnects and speakers cables

And, possibly, Melco N1A as a NAS or streamer.

Two very different purchases arrived this year.

First was my new Merging Technologies NADAC, the multichannel one, that replace my Exasound E28 and BADA2 DACs. So far, its given a lot of enjoyment, since it uses Merging's Emotion software which is very stable and easy to use. It also coincided with the completion of my almost 6 year ripping project where I did over 10,000 records and prerecorded R2R tapes at 192/24 (using my Merging Pyramix software and Mykerinos card and PM Model Two ADAC.)

My other purchase, at the complete opposite of the price curve is a simple system for my wife who wanted to listen to music away from the main setup without having to do anything more than scroll and click and turn the volume up or down. It is a NAD D3020 integrated amp/DAC powering a pair of the new Elac B5's. I hooked up the old Mac Mini I had been using with A+ before Emotion, and the system plays without any fuss or muss. Only does up to 96/24, but it sounds much more than respectable and A+ downsamples higher rez files to 96/24. The prices of the NAD and Elac are scary cheap for entry level audiophile sound (NAD D3020 $399 for amp, preamp, DAC in one ultra compact unit, and Elac B5 for $229 per pair of speakers. You can even bluetooth files to the NAD to play, though I haven't tried.

Rounding out my Shindo system: 604 Latour speakers, Vosne Romanee pre, Shindo speaker cables and interconnects, plus a PS Audio Directstream DAC. As a result, I've got what I want and I'm impossible to buy Christmas presents for.

My best purchase in 2015 was the Lampizator Golden Gate balanced dac, and Lampizator 211 balanced monoblocks. This combo is delivering music that far exceeds any other gear I have ever purchased.

Bud - I also upgraded my Triton to a V2 - how did I forget? :bonkers:

I also got a new Teac UD-503 DAC. It is a nice upgrade in my bedroom system where a Faroudja DV1000 is now acting as a transport.
