first among the great live music experiences is hearing an organ inside an old stone church -- the immersive sound, tonality, volume and reverb / vibration is something quite unique, as much felt as heard... sort of like the organ and structure combine into a single instrument.
unfortunately, this experience does not translate well through recorded music which to me is always flat and lifeless...
this recording, however, bridges that gap more than any i have heard. for those with systems having a big / immersive sound, you might give this one a try... at an appropriate volume level of course: lorenzo ghielmi + ensemble biscantores | a late medieval mass on the rysum organ
the rysum organ and kirche are pretty much as they were back in the mid 1400s when it was built which might account for the success of this recording effort.
