What are you listening to tonight ?

I've been comparing the 2010 "Experience Hendrix" reissue of "Electric Ladyland" to my original copy I bought when the album was released in the U.S. I took this picture of the back covers side by side because it represents to me the sound differences in the records. The new one is overly bright sounding and misses some of the textures and colors. It over emphasizes the high frequencies and is too bright sounding. I can crank the volume up on the original without fatigue, while the newer version gets fatiguing. Basically, any "updated sound" has compromises that hurt more than they help, IMO.

Must listen : my whole house is shaking. Brand new release from Tidal. I’m buying these two albums. Sounds sublime.

Grant Green: Solid.

Nice after work jazz for winding down.

I also considered the SX release, but it was only available in the 2019 full pack. And they charge the equivalent of four albums for shipping + taxes. Nah...

So, I got a pristine BlueNote original. Why not? The originals nevertheless are how the albums were released. Every decade has its music.

Kandace Springs - Soul Eyes

Really good female vocalist. She has a new album called Indigo but I don't like it nearly as well as Soul Eyes.

In a 180
Asking Alexandria - The Black
I also listened to the self titled album which is their last, being terribly disappointed in the musical direction the band took from their prior albums. To me the band established a sound, had some radio success with songs like Moving On, (Rock radio), so why make yourself a cloan of other bands. I'm all about experimenting and not making the same album over and over, but, don't become a commercial tribute band, or, commercialized cookie cutout.

A very pleasant album to listen to indeed.

I’m so happy there’s a vinyl re-issue of this gem now. Cherry Cola is one of my absolute favs. Best Rock attitude since the Sex Pistols, except quite a bit tongue-in-cheek...[emoji869]

I think they were once replaced as a warm-up number for the Eagles re-union tour, because their playing was so bad the elder gentlemen could not stand it [emoji23].

“And I could razzmatzz you honey if you want me to.
I could be your Daddy be your Rock’n Roller,
You could be my Sugar be my Cherry Cola...”

Lucy Rose - No More Words

Lovely voice, seems like the background instruments should have benn more a part of the song opposed to what I feel was just atmosphere.
