Went shooting today

Hmm, I used to target shoot about 25+ years ago, I also used to sit an make shotgun shells with my dad, he had loaders and such. He used to go hunting and skeet and trap shooting a bit). I used to have a rapid fire semi-auto .22 long rifle with a 6x adjustable snipe scope (later the scope became illegal to have), a 410 gauge shotgun and a .22 snubnose revolver. I liked the long rifle and hated the other two. The shotgun was boring to me and not worth the kick (then I tried my dad's 12 gauge once and never shot it or my 410 again). The snubnose was awful, could not hit a target at point-blank range with that stupid thing. Had fun with the long rifle though I remember.
However, I got rid of all them guns about 20+ years ago (turned them into the police). Not into guns these days, don't see the need for them. Back in my day it was better because it was required that you get a background check and get a license and take a 4 week gun safety and law class and pass the exam before you were even allowed to touch a firearm! These days no background checks, no classes, no license, just easy to get guns of all types and everyone does what they want. Ammo is super pricey though, but no deterrent.
These days I couldn't hit the broadside of a war anyway and I'm the guy who will bring a sword to a gun battle.

Rob, as you can see, I joined this forum now. Thanks for the heads-up.

And glad to see you have a new hobby. Maybe there will be a few older turntables left for the rest of us. ;)

I knew there was a good reason I signed up here, and Audio forum where I can talk guns without fear of people having a coronary! I love building AR-15's almost as much as building speakers :D

Yeah, its a new passion of mine...LOL...Glad to see folks joining !!!!

BTW ..I am going to the range tomorrow...Went last Saturday too !!!

Building AR-15's ? That sounds ALOT harder than me building Turntables....LOL..

You, or anybody, swinging through the STL area and wants to squeeze off a few rounds ... in addition to some nice tunes ... let me know. I have a 100 yard range in the back yard. This spring one project is to get my shooting amusement park setup, complete with a dueling tree and reactive targets. There's also a creek running through my yard, toss in 2x4 slices and shoot them as they float past! Shooting at a range is pretty boring in comparison.

AR's really are a piece of cake to build, they're like the lego's of firearms. That's what makes them so much fun! There are probably 30 calibers you can chamber one with, and if you get bored of the configuration, 4 hours and you can build essentially an entirely new gun. 4 hours is on the conservative side, honestly I can build one from nothing but parts in an hour.

You people are a happy bunch!

In my country firearms are illegal (except for the military, the police, other "authorized" personnel and rifles used by hunters). Of course, thugs have them, from pistols to the (in)famous AK47, but then who cares? Certainly not the gov'ment who thinks that being able to protect your life and property is less important than them being able to control you.

However I'm a knife collector and I can guarantee that some of my pieces are as efficient as a .22 in stopping a close-range assault.

We are a funny country. We have PROOF that the states with the highest gun ownership have the lowest violent crime and vice versa. Yet, a very vocal minority calls for more gun laws. Meanwhile, if you outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have them.

Are there school shootings, violent crimes, etc. ? Yes. But with anything, there is all a small % of bad apples, psycho's.

My son would LOVE your knife collection. That and swords. I have a few of his samurai swords around the house - great decoration that could turn into instant protection...LOL

If you're going to argue your "PROOF" successfully you'd have to also show that population has no bearing; since most populous states have stricter gun restrictions yet more "psycho's," as you call them, they increase the total number of incidents.

I am a proud gun owner but these simplistic statements only hurt the right to bear arms.

What country are you from?

For me, firearms are something I simply enjoy. It's a skill I've practiced and honed over the years, it's a hobby and sometimes and obsession. Self-defense I doubt will ever come into the equation in my lifetime, at least I hope not. And reloading for me is also a big part of the challenge as well. Finding that load that will put 5 rounds under a dime at 100 yards takes time and meticulous attention.

... just another challenge to enjoy

People, please keep any political opinions to your self. Firearm discussion can lead to strong opinions. So please stay on topic.

Thanks !!

^^^ What he said! Don't get the thread shut down ... let's just talk lead dispensing systems.

How about a picture of my favorite pistol. It's a 6" Fusion 1911, chambered in 10mm. I waited almost 2 years for this custom beauty to be built, but it was worth the wait and then some. I handload, and with my loads can almost push 135gr pills to near rifle velocity at 1850fps. I don't hunt much, but last time I did deer hunt I took this instead of a rifle. At the beginning of the trip the other guys all had a good laugh, "what are you going to take with that pistol". I just said wait, by the end you'll be a convert too. After 3 days of them lugging around 10 pound 36" long rifles through the woods, and me with my pistol on my hip they started to see the reason. Then when I took a 6 pointer at 70 yards, single shot, iron sights ... they were all in shock! Seriously I can print a 6" circle with this pistol at 100 yards.

No fancy finish, no bling, just a butter smooth pistol that has everything you need and nothing extra.

Been looking at this little guy myself:

Product: Model 351PD

Would be nice to have a noise maker while out on hikes that can be thrown into either a backpack or holster and not be uncomfortably large. Being .22mag it's not too over the top.
