Hi folks,

I got some very exciting news from my Dealer last night. My new SCD-025 is in final testing and due to ship in the next week! Moreover, I had a chat to Hans about how my player was going. Well it turns out that my player has benefited from a significant upgrade to last year's spec and includes a new, upgradeable master clock, new I/V converter, new analogue modules etc and is basically a whole new beast. Hans said my player is in a "totally different league...almost at the point where I could live without my analog rig" compared to the player that Chris Thomas last year described as "the best single-box CD player/DAC that I have heard to date".

I asked Hans about the size of the improvement and he told me "..about 50% i would say. The finesse is just so much better, it is like listening to a techdas airforce one with thales tonearm and dynavector x1s cartridge linket to our masterpiece phono. It was quite scary to be honest as I have publicly claimed digital will never get close to analog.. it would seem I am proving myself wrong - lol".

I certainly didn't expect this huge upgrade, so I am really excited!! I'm looking forward to updating this thread with some pics and my first impressions when I have the player installed in my system :).

Cheers,
Bodhi

Nice, I still desire a great spinner and having DAC inputs is a bonus.

Joe, I know that Hans team also spent quite a long time developing the DSD USB board, even delaying its release until it satisfied their design goals. According to VA, the USB board does DSD/DxD/DoP. It will bypass all the receiver and SRC part and send the DSD signal directly to the DACs.

Nice David. I really like the idea of the stillpoints (or similar) under digital devices. I've had good luck with the Ansuz Darkz under my Lumin. I would love to try the Nordost Sort Cones. Their demo at RMAF is always quite convincing.

Mike, there are definitely a myriad of options to isolate your gear. Half the fun is experimenting with different devices! I've used Wally/Harmonix feet, Alto Extremo, Finite Elemente & Stillpoints, but hands down Stillpoints have been the most effective. One thing's for sure, i'll be far from slumming it with Ultra 5's doing duty!

David - are you going Ultra 5's or 6's? I just added Ultra SS's to my Scala V2's and it tightened the bass right up. But, truth be told, I never tried the stock spikes - I had them on their shipping wheels while breaking in.

That's a beautiful piece David !
Thanks Mark, yeah I feel a bit like a kid waiting to open up his Christmas present. I have stopped to think how lucky I am...that this is one of the best .

This player will work great with three Ultra 6's one under transport the other two in the back. We design the Ultra 6 to be optimized for electronics. Our Ultra 5 is still the best for Loudspeakers. If you have not experienced the new 6 it is stunning!
We are just releasing a new Piano ultra ,which we will measure the increase in harmonics when applied to the piano. Should be able to show you some interesting graphs.

Great to see you chime in. Is that Bruce? I agree that 3 Ultra 6's are a good option for a transport being a perfect plane, though I have a hunch that 4 U6's + Ultra bases might pip 3 U6's. Definitely a wise investment .

Hi folks, my Dealer is coming over tommorow with a dozen Stillpoints Ultra 6's & a couple more Akiko Universal sticks for the 2nd run of my Jorma Statement cables. He is also sticking around to help me set up my system. For now, we decided to set up my S5's with the factory spikes so I can properly a-b compare the U5's + Ultra bases later & decide which is better. First impressions & photos to follow soon!...
