Viocustized my room!

Mike, I can only imagine the change in your space is dramatic. You certainly went full scale! How do you like it?

Bob - I ignored my problematic room for too long (the angled roof is an acoustic nightmare - if not treated). The change is dramatic. The room is so quiet. Decay of instruments - especially trumpet and piano - is now bang on with no excessive ringing. Imaging is much sharper. I can listen to Chris Botti all day long. Bass is even better, even though I know that's not the number one benefit of the Vicoustic panels.

I'll be adding 6, 3 foot tube traps (four 13 inch and two 16 inch) in the middle of the room in front of the window. The 6 traps will be stacked to form 3, 6 foot traps. I will then put one 4 foot, 16 inch tube trap in the front corners and two 4 foot tube traps on the outside of each of the speakers. I will move my existing bass traps to the back corners of the room. Then, I should be 95% of the way there. Maybe some diffusion on the roof. We shall see.

Room treatments certainly aren't sexy and exciting like a new amp, but they are a necessary evil. The key is time, patience, working with a professional like Jeff and measurements. Then formulate a plan and execute. Writing the check was the hardest part!

:exciting: Yowzaa!!! You don't do things half-way do you? How does it sound?

Amazing Doug. Amazing. I've gone from having one of the worst rooms in our audiophile club, to probably one of the best.

Are those MSR Springtraps in the corners? I have some that are not going to fit in my room.

Looks really good. How has it impacted your bass issues. Did u do none then all panels or did you do incremental build up to make sure things improved but not too damped? One minor suggestion is if your listening chairs r above ear level-a throw blanket would b much less reflective than leather. I had similar issue and a small shearling blanket worked wonders.

Excellent Mike. Happy for you. Does that pop corn machine still works ??? ;)

Mike are you consider this bass traps ? I found them interesting.

Bass seems more tight and better defined. But I think the tube traps will have the most impact on bass. I'm anxiously waiting for those to arrive. I did all this in one day! Phew! It's not too damp. If I hadn't left a 3 inch space between each vicoustic panel, it might have been. But this is perfect.

I will try the blanket on the leather chair. Good idea. Thanks.

Very cool Paul! What are those? How much?

And yes, the popcorn machine still works. I wish it didn't - then I could get rid of it. My wife loves it.

Its call Vicoustic Vari Bass ( 2 for $ 900 CAD ) I believe . I think its perfect for your corner since you dont have much height

When I put in tube traps I had some improvement, when I put in the Springtraps there was a sea-change in bass response. I stacked two pairs in the back corners. Obviously in your space that couldn't happen. If my new space would allow I'd use the Springtraps over the tube traps in a minute, IMHO they work better, but it is hard to say definitively because I had both in use together. I did not have all corners treated with one then the other, and perhaps just getting all the corners of that room treated was the solution.
