Welcome to AS! May you find this place a calm, soothing oasis that allows you to spread out and enjoy one of your passions with like minded individuals.

Dan... I was disappointed when you traded the MCD1100! But I forgive you because the Esoteric K-03 is a formidable replacement even though it doesn't quite match the rest of the Mac in the rack! :P

Steve.......That was initially a difficult decision to make because it is so nice seeing nothing but McIntosh black glass in a rack, especially for a McNut like me. The thing is I could not deny the performance difference, even as subtle as it was. In my systems with my ears the Esoteric K-03 delivered a purer, more well defined presentation, especially on Redbook CD's, than did the MCD1100. The difference was much smaller on SACD's but they make up a tiny part of my digital music library. Once I had the first K-03 in the studio system rack it did not take long to acclimate myself to seeing that beautiful silver face sitting in the rack. I wound up selling my second MCD1100 in the living room system as well, replacing it with another K-03. I haven't looked back and I am not the least bit uncomfortable with the look. I'd post a couple pictures but the forum software requires me to have 10 posts before I can attach photos. The Esoteric K-03 is a serious SACD/CD/DAC. I don't regret the change from the MCD1100 with the exception of loosing two digital inputs. The McIntosh MCD1100 has five including USB. The Esoteric K-03 has three including USB. That is one of my two nitpicks with the K-03. The other is no 12 volt power control. The K-03 requires you to press the mechanical interlock pushbutton on the front to turn it on or off. Beyond those two minor gripes I am a happy camper with the change in player/DAC's.

Welcome aboard. If you're in the w central FL area, we have a pretty active audio group here.

AJ Soundfield.......

Thank you for welcoming me to AudioShark. This hobby is so much fun, even if the rest of the world thinks we've lost our marbles. In the April 2015 edition of Stereophile's As We See It column by Steve Guttenberg, he wrote an interesting look at audio enthusiast titled Us and Them. He must be near my age because the things that sparked his dedication to high-end nearly mirrored my own, including the music and the transistor radio. Read it if you get the chance.

AJ, I am in rural north Florida, not too far from Live Oak. I live in the boonies. We have a tiny post office but no blinking yellow light. Just how I like it.

Dan,

I always loved your enthusiasm and expertise. Thank you again for speaking up. I sincerely appreciate it.

Steve.......Just jumped over to your system thread. Looking very nice. This is the first time I have seen your Studer A810 reel to reel. What a gorgeous tape machine. Seeing the two racks on either side of the Sony widescreen and the two MC2301's in the middle reminds me of the similarity of your system arrangement and mine in the studio system. I may have to consider relocating my Revox B77 MkII reel to reel from the control room to the studio system. Your system looks superb.

Hey Dan, welcome to the waters, this ones for you although a bit cheeky, it;s meant with good intent.

Welcome Double-D!
I too was a long term lurker - signed up a few months back and I love this forum. Everyone is perfectly pleasant and polite. A rare thing on the Internet forum platform I've found! [emoji2]

bjorman.......Thank you. It is always fun to discover a place where you can share your audio passion.

Dan...how are things system-wise? Since your purchase of the Anniversarios and the 2 K-03s, I think your system has been pretty stable. Are you where you want to be or considering any tweaks/changes of any kind?

Cyril.......I have settled into a very comfortable groove with both the studio system and the living room system. I'm sure you recall about four years of equipment coming and going from both systems. It was a real whirlwind around here for awhile. I tried many different amplifiers, sources, preamplifiers, cables, and speakers. I finally built two magnificent systems that suit me perfectly. Occasionally I get a small wave of lust come over me for one thing or another like we all do but I am so pleased with the sound of both systems that it is difficult to justify a purchase just to have something new in the rack, not to mention writing that check for my new Tahoe LTZ gobbled up some of the audio funds. It actually feels good to get off the merry-go-round and fully embrace the two systems I have built. You know what they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." That's my new motto......at least for now.

Dan...I hear you loud and clear  It's great to be in a place with your system where you are wanting nothing and just enjoying the music. Glad to hear it

Dan...Thanks. Extremely happy with the performance of the Suder A810. I have since added A820 Transfoless cards in which effectively dropped the gain a little but the output resolution is astonishing. Myles put me onto the Opus 3 samplers recently so I have got the tape bug now!

Hope to take some more pics soon. Some minor changes like forward speaker positioning, but a pretty stable setup nowadays. Enjoy it very much.

Also lost Jack last year. ( The one that used to pinch the sweet spot. ) 15 years was a good run. Miss him dearly. We have "Kek", a blue English Staffordshire Bull Terrior pup now. He's mostly a good boy, much for him to learn. I went ballistic yesterday, because he bit into a Chippendale leg. He does know not to go near the system, but obviously I still do not trust his youthful ways yet, particularly with all those snakes behind the racks!

I think moving the Revox B77 MKII into the studio sounds like a plan especially if you are not producing much from the control room nowadays. :)
