Turntable Shopping - Need some opinion.

+
I spent way too much time on the road today.... Went to two dealerships and listened about 6 different tables.

They all sounded great and nice looking too. My journey continues for few more days. :)

Where did you end up? TO is pretty limited - once you do find a table that interest the system as a whole usually consists of pces that you aren't familiar with so it's really hard to gage, crap shoot!

I have found most aren't even set-up properly

My Kind Of Music "owner John" when I have dropped by seems to have a good selection and does a great job in setup - hit and miss of what he actually has though but will take the time for you to listen to different ones.

It's allot of work and can leave your head spinning.

agreed it is hard work.and very confusing. ive owned a bunch of tables and have had 3 different ones in and out of here just in 2013, and i dont think ive ever stopped shopping for a good table. and i continue to look and listen to anything i can drive to.
its all in good fun paul!!!! youll find the right one. and youll know it when you do.
just dont rush into anything.

Yeah, I've read that article before Mike. ...It was quite controversial in some audio circles.

_______________

I agree with the last comments made regarding that it ain't so easy to shop for a turntable, and it never is over, even after you find one. ....Or two, or three, or four for that matter.

I have recommended to Paul that he consider a Canadian made, Kronos. Paul lives in Canada, the Kronos is made in Canada. I HAVE heard the Kronos multiple times - so I feel comfortable recommending it. I am also still planning on getting one myself. The original Kronos at a discount or the new Kronos Sparta are excellent choices IMO.

I had just seen a youtube video of this table a few days ago. It looks like the designer has really put a lot of thought into this design. I would love to see and hear one in person. Hopefully there will be one at the upcoming Axpona show in Chicago this April.

I also had seen one of these for sale on the 'gon for about 14K if I recall correctly…appears to have been sold now…anyone here lucky enough to have snactched her up?

Hi Paul,

I'm in the market for a new table too! I'm curious as to what tables you've been able to check out. Was there anything that stood out in particular that you really liked or maybe really didn't like about any of them?

It's okay - hopefully he has gotten the speed accuracy thing nailed down - already had issues from the get go even though a large portion of marketing emphasized on such was bang on - was suppose to have been corrected but the last show the issues was still apparent. The two opposite spinning plinths is kinda distracting to me and the red lights not liking. I actually like the aesthetics of the little brother but have yet to see in person. I think the Krono's is around $30k or so list now.

If you are up too this price range I would highly recommend you check out Steve D's Kodo "The Beat Table" along with Win's Saska idler

It's too bad that he is having issues with the speed accuracy as that is an absolute deal breaker for me. I cannot stand listening to any pitch wavering…very easy to hear on any sustained note. I'm very sensitive to that.

I only mentioned the Kronos as it seemed as though a lot of thought went into it's structural design to eliminate vibrations/belt pulling, etc. and I thought the used price of about 14K on the 'gon might be attractive to some.

I'm trying to keep my price range in and around the 15K range….less is always desirable to me:), but I am willing to spend more if I feel it is truly worth the expense as this next table will truly be my last table. When I find something truly specia:heart:l, I tend to hold onto it for decades at a time.

It amazes me as to how much competition there is out there in the turntable market. There are certainly a lot of options out there in all price ranges. This is a great time to be a vinylophile :exciting:.

Adding this via edit. I just checked the Chicago Axpona exhibitors listing and Kronos will be in attendance so I will be able to see if they addressed the speed stability issues.

Do we have any proof of these speed issues or are these just rumors?

Well I just mentioned it Mike from own personal experience, it was so ironic that as the norm blah! blah! marketing and this was one of the strong points being remarked about - just read the first glowing reviews and listeners thoughts. Why did no one pic this up with those golden ears! or at lease mention if they did

When I heard this table for the first time I provided my opinion - sometime after a new speed controller or sensors was now being changed out to correct this but the table had already been out for almost two years. "there is info. on this also but not all that easy to locate" Last show I was at 2013 and still heard the issue, I mentioned it and was told ya we know. So hopefully they have corrected this now, they will be at the show so you will be able to hear for your self.

The one being sold recently at $14K - well there is a story behind that. :)

Not trying to bad mouth - just providing my take on it.

If you read the add for that specific table that was for sale you will see it says within the add;

"New, updated speed controller installed" (for speed controller upgrade review- see: HP Soundings review Kronos Audio Turntable by Joey Weiss, 10 May 2013)

Now if you refer to that review dated May 10, 2013 at the top

Joey writes adding a retraction within the actual review "small print" saying; "As it happened, the only way we found out the original controller could be improved was upon when we heard the update"

So I heard this table again in the Fall at the Taves Show in Toronto, three different days and still had the same issues - some of my friends with good ears also easily picked up on it quickly saying it just doesn't sound right what's going on where as others were gawking at the red Acapella's ;)

I just spoke to Louis Desjardin, the founder and designer of the Kronos. He said these rumors are untrue and completely false.

I would suggest we not spread rumors about a product having faults unless we have hard proof. Someone like Louis has invested a tremendous amount of money and time into building the Kronos.

If we have hard proof - even an owners perspective - then I'm all for it. Otherwise, we just need to be careful.

True, this is very delicate manner.
We have to remember that in our Forum we have many friends that are founders, owners and
Or representers of many brands and is our privilege to have them here. They share there
knowledge and many times updates that many other forums does not have the opportunity to
Have.

That's my 2cents

:)

The new Kronos Sparta is listed at $21,000 usd. ... http://ultrahighendreview.com/kronos-audio-announces-new-sparta-turntable/

* Personally I find it extremely attractive, and the technology behind is quite interesting. ...I can't wait to read some reviews by the analog TT experts. ...Mikey and all the gang (Analog Planet, +++). :)

Plus! The list price, to me, seems very reasonable.

Where is Myles?
Maybe he got the opportunity to review one

IMO Kronos are in top group of the best TT on the market.
At the top of the list they only have sound signature on each brand and no flaws

I really don't want to dwell on this matter but Mike rumours aren't being spread

What else would you expect Louis to say? A proper response would be ya we improved and please have a listen and left at that - others can read between the lines. If you want to be closed minded - that's okay too :)

Reading the review by Joey Weiss dated 10 May 2013 and he writes

"As it happened, the only way we found out the original controller could be improved was upon when we heard the update"

Considering you are in contact ask him to post here and answer;

#1why did Joey write such a statement

#2 What are the reasons behind the new updated controller, specifically

#3 what does it offer over the original one - asking how many version are there out there?

Don't you feel those are legit questions to be answered?

I'm a end user, I have no agenda nor axe to grind - just sharing information which this forum for correct?

Now that's just too :)

What is the top group of the BEST TT on the market?
Has anyone ever had every table in their system at the same time to compare - I don't think so and even if so still would be debatable.

Statement of "No flaws" - who would make such a statement - makes no sense
