lmao!!!! funniest thing i read all day!!!!
of the 3 you mentioned i like sme best.lol. but ive never been a huge fan of the sme arm.
vpi is easiest. good value, good basic tables up to all out sweet tables. great first table.
clearaudio is good too just not my favorite.
good luck and good listening.

no need to go any further paul, i got all figured out for you.lol. vpi scout 2, ortofon cadenza bronze, manley chinook phonostage. find the right deal and you get all that for under $5k. then build yourself some 15-18W 300b amps and run those 096's with your mac preamp and you have a world class analog setup. done!!! :D

I have two WTL Amadeus tables, one standard and the other a GTA. Just to get it out of the way, I have yet to compare them with the same cartridge. I like what the Amdeus does with the EMT tsd-15. There is a very refined, organic tonality. As they say, this is analog that is meant to sound exactly that. While I believe there is a ton of overpriced gear in our hobby, I still don't believe in giant killers. So while i feel the WTL tables are excellent, I doubt they beat the best 10-12K TT setups. I am thinking of adding another TT setup this year, and am trying to think of it as a system, and which table will give me the option to go where I want to go. The Feickert is interesting, because I could do a 12" Ortofon Arm, and an SPU cartridge. Of course I am going in circles until I get out there to listen. Either way, at least one Amadeus STAYS. Maybe both (-: Best of luck Paul, and enjoy the journey.

I've heard the WTL Amadeus with an EMT TSD-15, Auditorium 23 step up transformer, and the little Shindo integrated driving O/96's at In Living Stereo in NYC. Fantastically musical setup. They are a vinyl oriented shop (they have an excellent used record store as the front half of their space) and they don't even carry anything between the WTL and the Shindo Garrard 301. Its looks may be a bit utilitarian, but its sound quality is excellent.

Have you auditioned it yet?

Soooooo Paul?

He only had a VIC Classic1 and some old SME TT. Actually the Project TT caught my eye.

WTL Amadeus + Shindo + DeVore O/96 = Paradise :D

Looks like a lot of TT for a reasonable price, plus if you decide vinyl's not for you shouldn't be that hard to move.

thats a good lookin table the project. i never heard one but id like to.

nice doug!!! i like the way your cartridge admires itself in the mirror.lol.

Hi,

new to this forum but not to turntables. I do have a few comments, and if they are unwelcome, I apologize in advance. Also if any of my comments have already been covered in this thread, sorry. I've yet to to read all of the 218 posts.

One thing I did not see in the thread thus far is what are your listening preferences. What kind of sound are you searching for.? Looking for a musical table or a analytical one? Are you after a tweaker's table or do you want something that you set and forget. Are you capable of any DIY? Do you have any preferences to belt, idler, rim or DD types (because there are good tts of all types out there)?

Soo many choices. How about a McIntosh MT5? Complete with arm, cartridge....$6700 or so.

Oh no mention of your budget was made...
