good morning mike . i own all the tubes being discussed and feel slightly different . the 101d is fast hyper detailed tubed . borders analitical in sound and love the sound . but on piano its too fast in decay . although the new globes are the best yet for me and beating my elrogs easily in clarity . for me i find the decay a bit thin , even though the 45 bottle head is not in all ways better the bottle head mesh is close to the new globes . in eml 45 i own , anniversary globes , bottle head both solid and mesh and the new globes full mesh . while eml globes do add a level of clarity , mesh seems to add harmonic overtones that solid does not have enough of. for the poster above i recomneded the same recti as you . he does not like up close and wants bigger staging . but as he owns the white base 101d i recomended the mesh 45 as a next tube to try . if the new globes were around has down it would have been my forst choice. weater its my headphones or my irs v . while the metal 101 d is great on some music . but is too thin on others . now an exception can be if one uses a tube chain meaning tubes in amps and this may add the weight and this may aslo make one need the 101d at the beginiing of the chain .

He asked for detailed and decay. You definitely get the detail with the Psvane 101d replica's. The decay...some...but it's hard to find a tube that has both.

101d with a fat sounding rectifier like WE422a is not bad.

mike have you herd the new globes . they hands down beat my msb . it has the dertails and weaight of my msb and the musicality that it does not . when I play the msb its wonderfull but then I pout on the lampi and now with the globes its a wow moment . piano is hard to sound good and the msb does it . but the lampi makes it your there .
thanks for your reply always learn from you .

Guys have we tried the JJ 2a3 ?

With my earlier question about the EML 45 mesh I didn't want more detail compared to the 101d ceramic white.
I just didn't want to loose the detail trying to get the rest sonic benefits.

So does the 45 retain the detail of the white ceramic base 101d's

Planning to get the EML 45 mesh and EML 5u4g mesh.

PM me if you have some spare.

Dexter, try also some vintage National Union 45 tubes from Ebay should be less than $70 a pair. Combine that withLa Dolce Vita's metal base Gz34 and you will have a great sound. If the metal base is too pricey get the WW2 RCA JAN 5r4gy (pre 1946). There is a guy in Arizona selling them for $88 each:

And here for RCA from WW2:

The seller for the Foreign Brimar is none other than:

Dave
Arizona Tube Supply

He also has more 1944 JAN RCA 5r4gy for $88 a piece. This is the double angled getter WW2 fabled recti, that many claim threatens the WE 274b.

Iam in Australia, not sure whether he will post.

He posted to Europe, no problem.

Not sure if the link you sent is WW2. You have to google the tube code (if shown) to see if its pre-1946

Ok, so early last week I (finally) received my new Takatsuki 274B.

Wow! The soundstage is enormous, pretty much on par possibly edging out my Western Electric 274B. The sound is heavier, more lush and weighted.

Unfortunately transformer hum kicks up quite a bit but it does not seem to be a disturbance at decent listening levels.

This is a superb rectifier tube for use with Lampi but at $900 it is an investment.

Still in all...great tube! Hope this helps...
