Tube Rolling Update in latest balanced Golden Gate...

They look right structure wise, but are there any date codes on the glass or base? The getter flashing is the least amount I have seen on one of these tubes. It looks right though.

On one of them, there is simply in small writing 3H6 on the middle of the glass. The other one has 5R4GY and CV717. The picture I showed you has the tube with lesser amounts of flashing. The other one has significantly more flashing but would have been impossible to get a picture of the getters.

Does a WE 422a require an adapter on the Big 7? It has the right pins and partly inserts but not all the way (and I don't want to push too hard).

Assuming you have a newer big 7 that takes 1 5-volt rectifier, the 422A will slide right in and work.

Just got my new Lite 7, came stock with Psvane 101d white base and 5U4C rectifier tube.
Wanted to know what tubes to roll that would not sacrifice the detail.

Deuter, you are in Australia, no?
There is a lot of good advice out there, but based on your question, the obvious DHT upgrades are the PSVANE WE metal base 101d, the limited edition Lampi/EML mesh Globe 45 and for a cheaper alternative, some vintage 6A3s. If you want to try 300b for sane money, then try the PSVANE UK Design 300B. it must be the UK Design version! The EML normal 45 mesh plate is also excellent and costs 60% less than the globe.

For the rectis, the highly regarded pre-1946 WW2 RCA Jan 5R4GY, the Halton/Fivre/Zaerix/ double Mica 5r4GY, the WE 422a (pricey), the Phillips metal Base GZ34 (kinda pricey), Brimar 5Z4, WE 274b and Takatsuki 274b (both pricey)....among others. I wont get into the hard to find exotica like the STC/Brimar Footscray 5R4...LoL

Iam in Australia, what excellent advise you referring to ?

Hard to find tubes here.

Can you explain the sound signatures for the tubes recommended.

The rectifier I currently have is the 5U4C from otk, not sure whether I can do much better.

Plus some on this forum as well:

BTW, note that my inbox is now cleared out!

I only have the white ceramic psvane 101D and have been burning in my balanced Lampi GG with them. But I have been rolling various rectifiers to burn them in. This is without detailed analysis. However one of the rectifiers I tried was a Cossor 53ku (one of the old ones with black base and old print). With the Cossor, the psvane 101D gained a lot of "body" to the sound and seemingly better bottom. Couldn't really see any particular downside. Maybe a particular good pairing? Can someone else try this combo with the PSVANE WE replicas. I am curious if they have similar result.

Would it be safe to assume the EML Mesh 45 and the EML 5U4G will get me as close to if not the top of the sound ?

Deuter,

Not necessarily.

If terms of Output tubes, I think there are several very good choices and depends on your system and personal taste. I think people who are loving the EML Mesh 45 are mostly talking about the EML 45 Globe made for Lampizator. The question is what do you think of the psvane 101D's you have in there now? Also, are you able to use both the 45/101Ds as well as the 300B/2A3s (IE do you have a switch for different tube types).

In terms of Rectifiers, there are lots of good choices. I wouldn't consider the EML 5U4G one of the top choices for the pricing. Lots of less expensive and more expensive choices that arguably be better.

I do have the switch at the back to change tubes.
I like the current ceramic 101d but haven't tried anything else so cannot compare.

Is there anything you wish more from the sound? Might be able to recommend something from that.

I would like to improve on the air around the instruments, make music sound more open.
Improve the decay of the instruments.
Improve the depth in the soundstage all this without sacrificing the detail.
