Tariff implications.........

As for tariff implications, I wonder what these beautiful Usher ML802's would / will cost if built here in the USA vs Taiwan ?

I know, not your words.... but, I take great offense at anyone calling McIntosh Bose-In-Tosh.

How many times have companies ownership changed without really changing the product, mostly for improvements and at times in marketing, etc., McIntosh included.... Bose included, etc., etc. There are very few long standing companies that have not been purchased by others, especially when the founders have passed. Martin guitars is one of the only that I am aware of that the founding family is still running the show, so to speak (at over 190 years and going strong).

Bose has very clearly stated that they, like previous owners, are not planning on changing manufacturing, etc., of McIntosh.

Typical non-sense, and it is completely uncalled for.

John, I know you did not come up with this idiotic name, it just happened to appear in your post (as reference to the others) and it was easiest to reply to yours :).
Hi Randy-

Yes, it seems other than some "business like" tidying up and access to more R&D cash, McIntosh remains. I called a few months back; a live person still answers the phone and I was pleased with the tech support. I know in the past I whined some but in the end, that too came to a satisfactory conclusion.

In 2014, we toured the factory through Audio Classics. There was automation on circuit boards but finish work hand soldered, glass panels etched; final assembly and testing in house. As you mentioned the transformers are wound, assembled and potted in tar. With many long time employees (one I recall was 40+ years) true American manufacturing at its best! Most likely, some of their smaller products may well be outsourced. But I'm still a fanboy.

Good Listening,

John

so Randy, you're a 'Southern Tier' kid ? Myself, Upstate / Western NY (Bflo) born and bred.

Another article on how things are going in China right now.

Interesting to note now that Tannoy has done what it did to it's 5 remaining (or formerly remaining) employees last month in the UK and it's former space it was renting out and shipped it's inventory back to China, they are REALLY screwed.

They've now shipped that inventory from China, to the UK fake holding office, now back to China, and now they will need to pay over 100% tariff's to bring that stuff into the US. Not to mention all the monies lost shipping that Chinese crap all over the world in a game of charades.

I just spent a week in Penn Yan on Lake Keuka for my 39th anniversary. I could live up there with all the Amish and Mennonite. It is very much like Lancaster PA but nicer and with Wine.

Not everything in China is crap. 2 examples:

The electric car industry is the biggest in the world, with brands like BYD, XPeng, Geely and Nio. Regarding to batteries, they are the number one in the world.

In mobile phones they have Xiaomi and Oneplus, absolutely wonderful smartphones.

I specifically said Tannoy Chinese crap.

The former head of Tannoy who moved production from the UK when they sold the plant, fired everyone and sold 100% of all their equipment has beed very public about the cuts in quality and designs - that he personally oversaw - when it moved to China.

It is not crap because its in China, it's crap because of what Tannoy chose to do to the product when they moved it to China.

Nice... Amish furniture is some of the best... the record racks I own came from Divider Records; Jason and Britt Prathier build these in the Amish way. I know Britt was raised Amish, not sure on Jason. Some of the finniest records racks that you will find anywhere!

We used to go up to lake Cayuga (one of the deepest lakes in the US, Seneca lake is even deeper) all the time. The southern tip is where Ithaca is... town with one high school and two major colleges... Ithaca College and Cornell...

Here is another opinion, one that is connected to reality and has real data (also, read the comments, get a feel on how the rest of the world feel - there is such a thing you know; the rest of the world). Your desire to inflict pain on China (and liberals) has blinded you completely. China will suffer, BUT so will the US. The only difference is that China is much better at suffering than the US. It is also much more agile.

I stayed at the William Henry Miller Inn in Ithica for my 25th. It was the first building from the first graduate of Cornell if I remember correctly. We like the Hampton right on the top of Keuka which is the only lake in the US that flows both directions and you can see that from the Tasting room of Wiess. Keuka then spills off into Seneca after a 7 mile meander and walking path with falls.

Seneca Lake is by far the deepest of the Finger Lakes. Years ago the Navy had a sonar station there. As for the Amish, living next door to them in Chester County, it's not all you read and hear and I'll leave it at that.

Buy American and you won't have to worry about tariffs. Pretty simple concept.

At least when I buy brand name toner for my 1K plus printer, it won't be a cheap knock off from China that renders it a heavy paperweight. (Purchased on Amazon)

China really doesn’t have quality issues anymore. This is not the 80s anymore. Their factories build whatever quality is purchased from them. Just like USA products, some good some not so good.

In fact in my not scientific experience- sometimes the product from China for half the money is better than the USA one.

We here in the USA are spoiled rotten compared to the majority of the world and typically have so many different selections of a given product at all kind of price levels. The high tariffs on China goods will definitely increase the cheaper level prices. At least until some other country w cheap labor comes into that role.

American Manufacturers Overwhelmed With Orders After Trump’s Tariff Crackdown On China

American Manufacturers Overwhelmed With Orders.
Really?? First, let’s check the source. According to Ad Fontes Media: "Daily Caller in the Strong Right category of bias and as Generally Reliable/Analysis OR Other Issues in terms of reliability."
Now let's examine the article. There are ONLY two examples given.
One manufactures rubber gloves. Guess where rubber is made?
Regardless, you must agree that the headline is a bit bombastic, don't you think?
