By the way Eric, Windows 8 can easily run with half to one gig of RAM.
Nokia smartphones run Windows 8 with 512 MB and 1GB of RAM (many models).
And I have been told that Windows XP can run with half Gig (by local PC techs). But true; 2GB is still preferable (faster multitasking and all that jazz).
* My smartphone has twice the RAM size of my PC! ...And the top-guns (phones) have six times more (or 3GB)!
Tomorrow, smartphones will have a 4K Ultra High-Def screen! ...Coming in the next few months, starting in June. I'm not making that up (Sound and Vision's website). ...Use your goggle chrome, or Firefox, or IE, or ...
And I bet that it won't take long at all till we see 4GB (next month or two and 8GB (next three to nine months or so) of RAM inside the flagship ones.
And, hundred years or so from now we'll be able to charge our electric car from our smartphone!
Strap your seat belt, and be prepared to vanquish. ...Vanish too, just before it takes real effect.

When the technician from a PC store installed Windows XP inside my IBM PC (2008), he knew that there was 512MB of RAM inside. /// And the proof was in the operating pudding; worked just fine for quite a long time, and probably still can, if I can get rid of all the crap that is slowing it down now; whatever it is, malware, consecutively running programs (at the same time), bad downloads, bad this, bad that, etc., etc., etc.
Well, I don't know why you even bothered asking anything since you appear to know it all already.
Your smartphone (any smartphone) is NOT running the full Win 8. They are running a special version of it, basically, just the shell. Try running Excel on a phone, I bet you can't. Sometimes I think manufactures purposely try to confuse people to make them believe just about anything.
Look at the Microsoft Tablets, they run Win 8RT. You can't load MS Office on them and many other things one might need. A lot of folks complained about it and thus it did not do well. Now MS has announced a new tablet comming out that will run the FULL version of WIN 8.
Just like the Kindle Fire for example, it's not running the full blown offical version of Android, it's running a customized version that is locked into the Amazon ecosystem.
There are many flavors of everything.
I don't give a damn if XP runs on 512MB or 1GB or whatever. Do you know about memory limitations of OS? For instance, WIN XP, 7, 8.... can't recognize or access 16GB of RAM anyway, so anyone telling you to install 16GB RAM for the ultimate machine is full of it. 16GB is a waste of 8GB. If you were running a CAD program on a purpose built PC for example, then 16GB would be accessed by the CAD program, but the OS would only be able to access up to 8-10GB depending.
If running what you have works for you DON'T CHANGE IT!! You keep arguing a fact that is just something printed on a box, why? Are you trying to prove that you didn't need help in the first place?
I'm not telling you to go get more RAM or else your doomed or something. The RAM is not the main issue and besides your machine is a 2008 and you would have a hard of a time finding compatible RAM for it anyway because its an older Lenvo(IBM) and they tend to be proprietary. (How do I know this? I work for an IBM premier partner and reseller for big business systems and I see the equipment everyday).
I've grown tired of trying to help with this, so I'm bowing out.
Don't get me started on that 4k stuff. (It's having a lot of trouble even getting off the ground and there is a good chance of it being scrapped. Don't believe everything you read in magazines). Besides, I personally don't care about 4k either as it would be of no use to me so I don't have a dog in the fight, I'm just reporting some data.
I don't have a future vision anymore and it does not excite me, quite the opposite actually.
