StillPoint Ultra 5's

You bet they work like a charm in your Futuras, Angel.
But please don't take that path or you will be damned like we all are.
Is not turning back after your first demo in your system.
You will be hooked and would ask for more and more and More.....
Hahahahahahha

Maybe because I'm like one of all of you ,
the same crazy bastard that love this hobby and enjoy sharing with all of you

Just a friendly note to those considering Stillpoints....there is a method to the madness. Thanks to my dealer (http://designaudiovideoinc.com/) who told me some tips about proper Stillpoint setup - he said, make sure you leave a credit card gap between the top of the stillpoint and the bottom of the device/speaker. You can make the gap wider to "tweak" the sound, but the stillpoint and device/speaker should never touch. I tried credit card gap and it sounded good, and then I went to credit card with the raised numbers on your card (yes, that does sound very anal!) and prefer it. What I did was to run the credit card, numbers in, 360 degrees around to make sure I had full clearance.

It's certainly a "wow" moment. They are expensive - but boy, do they work.

Guys, I know you are discussing StillPoint Ultra 5's but I wanted to add a note for those of us who may have to save for the Ultra 5's for a few months, err years..., :S that StillPoint SS' is an outstanding alternative to investing right away in the 5's. I believe every word that has been said about the Ultra 5's because the performance improvement just using the SS was so startlingly strong and impressive for me, but for the life of me I can't find the can where I hid the gold dubloon's buried in my backyard to be able to afford them! (Holy Crap - $2,000+ per speaker!). Before someone takes issue, there is no casting the evil eye on anyone from me if you can afford it; I know for a fact I would spend it without hesitation if I could. But if you are like me and have some limits to your budget this is a worthwhile idea to go to the SS alternative for now.

I am here to tell you the performance improvement gained in my system using the SS' under source, speakers and power has provided everything you speak of here, only not with quite as much bravado I imagine but, it does qualify as serious Voodoo!:exciting: With the SS too, as I believe Highend Guy said for the Ultra 5, can be used on future pieces of equipment, or they trade very well on Audiogon or other sources with minimal loss to your initial purchase dollar. Speaking to one of the engineers at StillPoints, he even suggested I consider buying StillPoint Mini's because they performed better under lighter weight equipment than those designed for the heavy weight stuff. I don't remember the technical reason he gave I just remember thinking it made sense. I hope I'm adding some benefit here to someone with my comments because it is really what my purpose is, besides validation that StillPoints do work and it was not be the dumbest purchase moves I made in my system. It probably qualifies as one of the smartest for me!!!!!!:scholar:

Olsskool,

I'm 100% with you.
I use on my gear the Ultra Mini, they work excellent on gear that weights less
than 50 pounds. The Ultra 5 is for insane guys like all of us that want the total best but the SS
Is the sweet spot IMO.

Olskool - I'm glad to hear the SS's are so good. They seem to be the sweet spot in the line up.

I have a question for all of the Stillpoint fans out there. Some of the folks in one of my local audiophile clubs think we are nuts. They say they achieving similar results with products like these: http://www.mcmaster.com/#vibration-isolators/=qpf9tr

I would love to hear from someone here who has compared these products with Stillpoints.

I have tried products like these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0051...bile/182-7042368-2860158?ref_=pd_sim_sbs_hi_2

and quite frankly, they did nothing. Stillpoints work BIG TIME. But I want to know if anyone has found a DIY type product that works as well as Stillpoint. :skeptical:

You are spot on with your findings. To put Ultra 5's under a notebook would be plain overload, the same for a small dac etc & not needed, hence the referral to the mini's is a good one, me, I am going for the SS's under the n/book as well as dac/preamp. Another thing to remember is that no matter how heavy your amp is the 5's can be used in threes & also I will have them in threes under the Maggies.

Look Mike, everything that you can draw a Vertical line is damping.
stillpoints don't have a vertical line up or down (true isolation )
All other brands have a particular signature on your sound and nobody wants that. Sometimes you can find they work wonders but nothings compares with Stillpoins, they are on a league on their on.
Soon I will do a video on how they work from inside, is pure physics not voodo.

I have tried products like these: 1.5" Sorbothane Hemisphere Rubber Bumper Non-Skid Feet with Adhesive 50 Durometer - 4-Pack:Amazon:Home Improvement

and quite frankly, they did nothing. Stillpoints work BIG TIME. But I want to know if anyone has found a DIY type product that works as well as Stillpoint. :skeptical:

Mike, I've tried sorbothane, stainless steel, rubber, brass, wood, suspension, isolation, dampening weights & a shitload of other stuff that I just don't care to mention, some were good, every one of them had a different sound under a source, if you have a system that is revealing enough that is. Stillpoints are at the top of my heap. Here's something to try for a naysayer. Put your speakers with spikes on hockey pucks, then take them out & replace them with blocks of wood, last but not least let the dealer put the Stillpoints under. For less than $10 you have just heard a very valuable lesson on dynamics & presentation from using footers. If you don't hear any difference, you might want to wash the car next time it's raining!!

Oh believe me, I'm a believer. It's just hard to convince others that their $2 Home Depot solution can't compete.
