Some Strad Porn

Beautiful! I'd love to hear those Ktemas.

And superb choice of vinyl! I love Dire Straits.
 
I went to San Benedento Italy to listen to a pair of Strads at audio plus. Ended up coming home with a pair of Ktemas instead. With that said, the strads were a close second.
 
Yeah joeinid, great story indeed. I lived in italy at the time. Saw the Strads advertised on Audiogon. Went to Audio Plus and listened to the Strads. I did not even knew of the Ktemas at the time. He inisted i listen to them even though i was not interested. After listening to them for a few minutes i was sold. A month later they delivered them to my door in a moving truck at midnight, lol. Now i live in california. Will be moving to Japan in a couple months and yes the Ktemas are coming with me. Just cannot depart from them. Old SF, Franco Serblin speakers are very special. I would love to hear these speakers with a different set up to compare. I never heard these with anything other than my Moon gear.
 
Wow! Very nice. I was Strad obsessed ever since I heard them about 4 years ago. I kind of knew of the Ktema but never realized what they were and how they'd sound. I am sorry I never explored them before I pulled the trigger on my Strads.
 
The Strads are exceptional Harris, but, would love to live with some Ktema's.. hmmm. gotta buy another business...
 
How did we go from talking about Strads to Ktemas? While it's interesting, I think we should stay OT.

Mike,

It will depend a lot on cable type and mainly on the preamplifier, not on the power amplifier. A GAT could probably easily drive many 35 feet long cables - I know about someone using a 30 feet Transparent Audio Reference MM2 - but I would be more careful with the ART S3, as it has much higher output impedance. For long runs we must avoid some ultra high capacitance cable brands. Both Cardas and Kimber have low capacitance IC cables, suited for long cables.

OR ARC REF250's with some sweet KT150's....or wait for ARC GS250's (we know they are coming) OR VTL 185 III's OR Pathos Adrenalin OR McIntosh 2301's.

Thoughts?

Mike,

CJ GAT/ART is my favorite tube gear but I really like the Ref5SE or Ref10 with Ref250 too. I'm less familiar with the others you mentioned. I don't think you could go wrong either way with these for adding some tube flavor to your upstairs room.

... yeah, you left out BAT Rex II








& if you are going into such territory, I'd have a google at Thrax Spartacus too. Here they are with a Thrax Dionysos preamp etc..... They seem to keep reasonable company.




 
uh oh. Those sure are pretty!

I also thought about BAT too.

Curious about Air Tight, Aesthetix, Triode Corp, etc.
