So, is it okay to swap rectifiers while the Lampi is on but muted/standby?

From the owner's manual:

"We used directly heated diodes in our amps, in one-rectifier Big 5, Big 6, Big 7, and on some Level4 DACs.
Rectifiers compatible: 274B, 5c3s, 5Y3, 5r4, 5U4, GZ34, 5c4s, 5u4c
Rectifiers can be changed safely during playback. Just grab them by the base.
To change music tubes you must switch off the amp. DAC can continue to work."

I have been changing the rectifier tube with the DAC just muted. When I put the next one in, I just give it ten seconds or so before I turn the sound back on. Pretty sure that I am the one who told Joe he could do it.

Not sure about the balanced version, but it totally works with the regular Big 7. The caps on the power side have 10-30 seconds of power. Put another rectifier in and the cap will recharge without skipping a beat.

Well, I swapped in my new JAN 5U4G rectifier "hot" and all is well. No cats were harmed in this exercise.

Jury is still out if I like it better than stock. I thought for sure I would based on hearing in a friends Lampizator. Hmmmm.

Just curious.....

Yes, with muted volume. Lukasz confirmed this to me several times, months ago. The DHT output tubes can be changed on the fly without muting...but I would still not do it., i always mute.

Edit…rectis can be switched without muting and the DHT need muting as they could do harm to speakers. I always mute BOTH of them in an abundance of caution.

Correct Bruce. That is how I roll too. LoL

Let it burn in for a while...

I would love to see the schematic. Tube rectifiers normally supply the B+ for the tubes in the circuit (input and output tubes). In standby mode normally the voltage to the plates of the output tubes are switched off so they can't conduct. This means the tube rectifier is still seeing the output voltage from the power transformer. I just don't see how it's a great thing to grab a tube rectifier that has live high voltage applied to it and pull it from the socket.

Mark,

I would NEVER do the live swap with ANY other tube gear. I've seen it done many times and would normally be hesitant. Only on the Lampi would I consider it.
