Selecting new speakers

That is very interesting about the Lampi Dac. I went to a local Audiophile club in home demo of Pure Audio Project, Hattor, and Lampi. I heard music like never before and not since. (I don't get out much :))

There was one track in particular played that day that blew me away. Jessica Williams - Heather from Live at Yoshi's. Basement system was a prototype Lampi Integrated. (not sure if it ever went to market) the Lampi Pacific, and they were rolling tubes every hour, and the Pure Audio Trio with the Voxative Field Coil drivers.

I was not familiar with the music and the guy sitting next to me clued me in. It was just so live and realistic and the overall system was fantastic. I ordered the disk when I got home but no matter what system I play this track on, mine or audio store demos, nothing has come close to the sound I heard at the gathering.

The upstairs system was a Hattor Int with the Atlantic DAC and the Pure Audio Duet which was also nice for a smaller room. The living room was also Lampi with the Quintet.

I guess what I am trying to say is the Pacific DAC is pretty special if you have the cash and makes music sound like no other system (that I have heard) It might not be just the Speaker, that DAC has so much to do with it maybe no matter what speaker.

Cheers

Interesting that they were using Hattor with the Lampi... both being from Poland probably played into that. I know it is not used or mentioned much, but I am very happy with my Hattor.

Glad you got your old favorite amp repaired and back to its old self. We both know the T+A is a great little amp but we both were trying different directions at the time. I am currently very happy with the MBL that I came across!

Randy, you're 100% about that T+A Amp 8 being a great amp. The fellow who bought it from me is ecstatic with it! An MBL 8006 amp?!?!?!?!?! Who wouldn't be happy with that? In fact, I'm happy for you!

Ok, so what happened to the Happy go lucky Lisa?
Ding dong, ding dong, ding dong…

Don’t know why but Somehow these two songs popped in my mind:

You can ring my bell, ring my bell
(Ring my bell, ding-dong-ding)
You can ring my bell, ring my bell
(Ring my bell, ring-a-ring-a-ring)
You can ring my bell, ring my bell
(Ring my bell, ding-dong-ding)
You can ring my bell, ring my bell
(Ring my bell, ring-a-ring-a-ring)
You can ring my bell
You can ring my bell
(Ding, dong, ding, ah-ah, ring it)
You can ring my bell, anytime, anywhere
(Ring it, ring it, ring it, ring it, ow)
You can ring my bell, you can ring my bell
(Ding, dong, ding, ah-ah, ring it)
You can ring my bell, anytime, anywhere
(Ring it, ring it, ring it, ring it, ow)…..

Oh and this one:

Oh Mickey, you're so fine
You're so fine you blow my mind, hey Mickey
Hey Mickey
Oh Mickey, you're so fine
You're so fine you blow my mind, hey Mickey
Hey Mickey
Oh Mickey, you're so fine
You're so fine you blow my mind, hey Mickey
Hey Mickey
Oh Mickey, you're so fine
You're so fine you blow my mind, hey Mickey
Hey Mickey
You've been around all night and that's a little long
You think you've got the right but I think you've got it wrong
Why can't you say goodnight so you can take me home, Mickey?
'Cause when you say you will, it always means you won't
You're givin' me the chills, baby, please baby don't
Every night you still leave me all alone, Mickey
Oh Mickey, what a pity you don't understand
You take me by the heart when you take me by the hand
Oh Mickey, you're so pretty, can't you understand??
It's guys like you Mickey
Oh, what you do Mickey, do Mickey
Don't break my heart, Mickey….:celebrate008_2:

Anybody stop to consider that the size of "Lisa's" room could probably mean she's an aerobic instructor?

Well, if Lisa is on the left side of USA, she can come listen soon I’ll have three very different speakers to audition. My Diesis “Roma” and Pilium electronics are just waiting for customs clearance so I expect next week will a good week here. Alsyvox Boticcelli also due any day now. The Bayz Courante speakers not until early September. Three completely different speaker designs… something likely to appeal. Perhaps the shy Lisa will come out of hiding for a listen ;-)

bzr,
Hate to ruin your fantasies, but let’s just hope your aerobics girl isn’t looking kinda like this:
And Bob be careful, you don’t wanna have this guy fall on the left side of anything…:D

Never miss an opportunity to market your products.

I hear you Mep. I don’t sell Magico but would encourage Lisa to hear something in the Magico lineup. Same for Wilson. Others have suggested she visit Mike @ Suncoast, which makes good sense as Mike has a reputation for giving great advice and exceptional post-sale support.

I’m not getting into this “home audition” thing to make a bunch of $$, pay the bills, pay the mortgage. I love sharing music with music lovers. The idea I could improve my own kit, have several options to sort from, and maybe help support my hobby seemed like a reasonable retirement gig. My wife has been pestering me to end my current business and retire — she really pushed me to do this because she knows I need something to focus on and why I haven’t retired yet.

And the original poster asked about speakers — I’ll just happen to have some not easily auditioned west of Dallas or Chicago, and they are each unique. (OK, if she hasn’t heard a ribbon planer there are always lots of places to hear Magnepan.) At her budget, and given room size, the bigger Alsyvox models can play that room, probably the big Bayz too. I’m not sure ‘bout Diesis — that is a large room she mentions.

Yea one acoustical watt should get her there .....!

:)

Yeah a.wayne, but what a watt it would be! But I still think a 5-watt SET amp is what would really do the trick because it's always nice to have a little headroom...

Either way the question is fun.

I personally would have something like the ACS30 into a good DAC, maybe compare DCS toMSB.

Then I would either go with JBL K2's driven by D'Agostino monoblocks, 2 per speaker, possibly explore other amps, Bricasti, Constellation etc. best synergy;

or, the largest Volti speakers. Not sure at this point what amp. Second thought, I'd have to compare the Volti to Sadurni, Sadurni is consistently very good.

I'd also use a subwoofer swarm in the room with either set up. Maybe JL

I just don't feel a traditional speaker would work in that size room. I have heard large Wilson's pressurize a fairly large room though.

I agree with JBL (or horn design anyway) and the sub swarm. Probably the JBL DD 67000 and just 2 big JL's will do fine. For amplification I would go with Audionet Max. Reading the description I think the focus is too much on the typical high end: Magico,Wilson etcetera. The request seems to go to a high-end club sound. And DJ stuff! For streaming a great dCS Bartok will do. But we need to add two Technics 1210 GR turntables, a nice rotary mixer 3 Rotary Mixers That You Should Know About - YouTube
and if digital mixing is required, a nice Traktor digital DJ set
