Hi all, as you know I have not been very active on the forum for a while. My mum had been ill for some time with Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (CJD), and been in palliative care at the Calvary Health Care Bethlehem hospital since early March. Sadly my mum lost that fight and passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday. I hadn't long since returned home from dinner with Dad when I got the call. Dad and I then had a chance to see Mum for the last time before she was moved away, and I had precious time to say prayers for her.

Our family are deeply appreciative of the caring staff at the hospice who were caring and professional. We could not have asked for better care. I think Mum was their favorite, and one Nurse confessed to me she spent "a little bit of extra time" with Mum after feeding her. Dad and I visited Mum often while she was in the hospice, making sure she was comfortable, putting on her warm socks so she didn't get cold, making her a cup of tea etc. But mainly just sitting with her and talking to her. Family and friends also visited Mum which made her happy.

My memories of my Mum are of a kind, caring and thoughtful women. She really lived for her children. She avidly read the papers and had a strong interest in politics. She could be quite feisty when that subject came up! She could be very insightful and observant, as well as intuitive. She had that mother's 6th sense, and seemed to sense my concerns and dreams. At key points in my life she used that gift to bless me with thoughtful gestures...more than I could ever repay. Most of all, I have never known a kinder or more loving person in my life. I am so blessed to have had mum in my life for 46 years.
I hope you will join with me and burn a candle, or perhaps say a prayer for my mum . Thank you all! :cryforjoy:.

David, I'm so sorry for your loss. She will be deeply missed by all those who loved her. ❤️

David, so sorry for your loss. Sadly I hear more friends and family speak of those who have just passed away. As I get older, it's getting all too common. You, mom and your family will be in my prayers and mind.

Thanks for your prayerful thoughts Joe. Yes the cycle of life (birth and death) is one of our common bonds in life which reminds us to cherish life and our loved ones, and live every day to the max. Cliche I know, but true.

David, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. She sounds like a wonderful woman and it sounds like she was surrounded by love during her passing. My wife was a hospice nurse for many years and I agree with you as to how they do so much during this very hard time.

Randy, thank you for your condolences and kind words. The love that surrounded Mum in her final days was/is a great comfort to me as I know it was to her.

Ken
