Well, I finally had a chance to setup the S1. Too early to share any thoughts or opinions but do know that it is 6 AM, music is playing and I can't get my butt off the sofa to get ready for work...:D

Congrats Mike!!! [emoji106][emoji106]

Looking forward to your impressions.

Did you read the latest review on the S1?

http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue78/lumin_s1.htm

"What Lumïn delivers in full scale is something that audiophiles rarely even get a glimpse of—the cardinal value of music—emotions it provides listeners with. Everything that gets in the way of it is redundant. That's the ultimate level of performance—to offer something that is clearly not very "audiophile" as it doesn't event try to convey every little squeak made during recording but rather shows clearly WHY something squeaked, offers a bigger picture. There is no greater "fidelity" than "fidelity" to the MUSIC."

Congrats Mike :congrats:

You've waited a long time for your new digital source, I hope it was worth the wait !

Let us know what you think.

Congratulations. It looks like we will be evaluating these at the same time, since mine arrives tomorrow (Saturday).

I just wanted to congratulate you on the new Magicos, only to realise you bought the Lumin, LOL.

Congrats anyway !

Hi Mike,

A big congrats on your new S1! An absolutely top notch digital source. You have methodically put together a world class system. I look forward to reading your impressions.

Enjoy,
Ken

Thx guys!

I've had the S1 playing all day at home while I was in the office. Out of the box sounded pretty darn good. Tonight It sounds even better - wonderful extension, great instrument separation, great detail and yet a warmth that I did not expect. And, the darn thing is sooo quiet. Oh, one more thing, super easy to use and setup.

Can't believe I waited so long to order it! :panic:

Congrats on your purchase. I'm very pleased and its only day 1! Can't wait to read about your impressions as well.

Mike,

I see you have a BDP-2. I use a BDP-1. Did you direct connect a USB drive to the S1? That is what I plan to do.

Great to hear Mike! It will get even better after about 200 hours.

The Lumin is such a joy to use and listen to.

Bud,

I purchased an L1 as well. Loaded files to it last night. However, I have not connected the L1 to the network yet. I'm upgrading the router this weekend.

For now, I'm using a single 1T WD USB drive connected to the S1. I have about 1400 CDs and high res files on this drive which loaded on the Lumin very quickly.

Mike - They did an excellent job researching, designing and building these servers.

So far I have avoided networked audio, since I have no desire to worry about whether or not Ethernet cables make a difference. However, I can see the advantage of having a NAS. I think I will stay with the direct attached USB for now to get familiar with the performance, and then add a NAS. I can't wait for it to arrive tomorrow.
