Room friendly speakers

I think in general speakers with active bass have more flexibility. My new space is a trapezoid, so going through this mess today.

I agree on the long wall setup- always sounds better to me.
 
One of the Leben or upper end Line Magnetics Integrateds would certainly simplify things and you could have a hell of an amp sale.:woot:
 
Late to the thread Mike but I have been following along. Maybe you need to rethink the type of gear that you have in your room. Maybe the big powerful amps and the big speakers are just too much for that space. The sound waves are just getting channeled down the sloped walls/ceiling and everything is just too much. Even all of the treatments aren't enough to make everything right. Now the room is the room and may act the same for any system you stick in there, but perhaps if you had a less powerful system it would be more beneficial. Maybe a nice little 20w amp with some super efficient horns or something of the like would play nicer in that space. Will you be able to play music at 105db and hear mind blowing bass at the same time? Probably not. But it may produce some if the sweetest sounding music for you. Throw some oriental rugs on the floor, a few crates of old records, maybe a big hookah on a table, and sit back and enjoy your collection of vinyl. And when I say amp of course I'm talking about tubes! :)

Oh sure, Tannoy (where's Paul been btw?), AvantGarde, Devore (Jock's O/96's are playing third string these days. Maybe he would let you play with them...), but one speaker always comes up when we talk about this. Volti Vittoria. You always talk about how great these speakers sound. That may be the itch you need to scratch.

Personally, I'd forego all thoughts of digging into the floor or ceiling and/or construction of a new room and go back to the SF Strads with Pass Labs Class A monoblocks and an AR Reference Preamp. Seems like a long time (and a lot of equipment) ago but that was to my ears the best sound I heard there up there.

You might be right Howard. That's what Bart, John and even Jeff said. Everyone loved that setup.
