I just took delivery today of these two nifty devices. Setup took all of twenty minutes.

Amazing how far off my VPI Classic 2's speed was when just running the tachometer to check speeds. Actually, it wasn't terribly far off speedwise, but it was bouncing back and forth below and above 33.3 by quite a margin. With both of the new PE units in place, now the speed is super accurate fluctuating between 33.332 and 33.336 or so. Now I just need to dress the cables that run to the units with some wire-loom as the little PSU and Tach boxes are located below my turntable between the feet and I can see the cables running all over due to their coiling/kinks from packaging.

Feel free to read up on them here if you're unfamiliar:

I'll try to post a picture later tonight.

Hi Mike, Thanks for the update. I have been considering the Falcon for my WT Amadeus GTA. Not sure that I have the 1/4" clearance between platter and plinth for the Roadrunner. Certainly a reasonably priced upgrade for tables in the $2-8K range. Are you also hearing the improvement? Cheers -Don

The Falcon works with AC motors, the Amadeus is DC.

Hi Don,

So far, only played a couple of LP's so can't say much across the spectrum of music and any general improvement yet. However, if the couple of piano pieces I've listened to tonight are any indication, this is going to be a marked improvement having these additions in my setup.

Apologies for the bad lighting....

Thanks Rob. I never caught that. Guess I will stick with my DPS Power Supply and KAB to check speed.

its still possible to mount the Roadrunners magnet on the side of the platter near the bottom edge and mount the sensor on it side, I did this with my table that has no clearance under the platter. IIRC the Amadeus has a setscrew on the back to fine tune the speed. the KAB is good but the roadrunner is mo betta ;)

I have the Phoenix Engineering Roadrunner Tachometer on my Michell Gyro SE turntable with the Michell Never Connected power supply unit that allows speed adjustment of the platter motor. There was no where other than the platter weights to attach the magnet for the tach sensor and I attached the tach sensor circuit board to the inside of the rear suspension spring cover. It is invisible from the front and the tiny magnet is essentially unnoticeable on the one platter weight. The Roadrunner Tach works like a champ.

The Michell Gyro SE sits on a solid maple Boos Block that is supported on four Symposium Fat Padz for very effective isolation. This leaves enough room for the Roadrunner Tachometer display to sit on the shelf under the Boos Block.
