Well since no matter what I have tried, still, with the latest Lumin apps my I-Pad freezes up on about the 8th song, and no one seems able to help me resolve.

So, I ask this question:
Since the Lumin app 7.1.7 works flawlessly, am I losing out on any audio quality from not using the newer apps? Or are the newer apps just functionality improvements?

Out of curiosity, have you tried to control the Lumin from another device like your mobile phone or a laptop?
Apologies if you have tried that and I"m forgetting.

So, I just tried the latest Lumin app 9.0 on my cell phone and it too froze up on the 8th track.

I have tried previously resetting the Lumin X1 via the menu, but I have not tried resetting the Lumin with the pin hole in the back of the unit.

Would that work wklie, Angus, or anyone? Would I lose my extensive song list?

Factory reset will lose the current playqueue, but you may save it first if you enable the Google Drive function in Lumin Android app.

Since no one else has the same problems you have across both iOS and Android for the past several months, I can only conclude the WiFi / network infrastructure is faulty.

Again....

That said, you may very well have an I-Pad (s) that do not have the memory or whatever to do what is required. You never answered that question.

Please do not think I am trying to confront....it's the opposite. I am trying to help.

treitz3, wklie,

Thank you for the replies.

As I have stated I have tried my cell phone which is on completely different carrier service than my home internet and the cell phone also froze up after about 8 songs.

So, to me, there is an issue between the Lumin X1 and the new Lumin apps communicating with each other.
But the older 7.1 app works fine.
That's why I thought of resetting the Lumin by the pin hole in the back.
But I do not want to lose my playlists.

So, after many Lumin app upgrades, my Tablet has continued to freeze up after about 8 songs. The songs continue to play and my remote works fine, it's just that to pick another song or pause, change volume, etc. via the Tablet, the Tablet will not respond. I have to shut down the Lumin app and relaunch it, then again it plays for about 8 songs and freezes up.

Very, very frustrating.

I just went back to the Lumin 7.1.7.apk and it plays fine.

There is definitely something wrong with the latest Lumin app upgrades that I wish Lumin would take seriously and fix.

I just ran across this post of yours. I use a Galaxy Tablet and this has been happening to me for over a year regardless of what update I am using. I just thought it was my tablet going into some type of standby if I'm listening for a period of time without touching the screen. I have to exit out of the app and relaunch it. I stream via Tidal.

EJK,
Thank you for your post. I have not been able to solve this problem.
I hope that Lumin can solve this problem.

Can somebody help me with an issue that just popped up. I use a P1, and for some reason my internet radio stations have disappeared. This is happening on my IPad Air2 and IPhone 15, the screen is just blank.
I have the latest firmware I believe on the P1, do I need to reset with the pin hole? I tried powering down with the switch on the back.

You can try uninstalling the app then reinstalling the app.

I just installed it on my IPhone, previously I was only controlling it with my IPad, so I don’t think that is the problem. If Spotify is working, I am getting internet services, so I am not sure why internet radio has vanished?

I have solved it, went in to player options and turned internet radio off, then back on again and they reappeared. Not sure why they were off to begin with though.🤷‍♂️

EJK,
I am using Quboz. I think that is the problem, once Lumin added the Quboz connect feature it seems the problem started.

I am sure there are many others with the Lumin and the Lumin newer apps not responding properly. Many are not on this forum and are just suffering with the never ending delete and reinstall.

I just tried the Hard Reset method by placing a pin in the back of the Lumin pin hole for reset.
I had high hopes that this would allow the Lumin App 9.1.2 and the Samsung-Lumin player to sync.

But Nope! Still freezes up on the 8th song.

Somebody, Please Help!

The only common denominator is the Lumin X1.
Can my unit be of an older version/model that cannot accept the newest firmware?

Can you try the Lumin X1 in another room with a wired network connection or at a friend's house?

I know you've been trying all you can to solve this but if it were mine, I'd try the X1 connected somewhere else and then see if the tablet or phone still freezes at the same time as you currently experience. The X1 wouldn't even have to be connected to an audio system since you'd just be checking to see if the freezing issue repeats itself.

ozzy,

Are your freezing issues occurring with the same playlist/same songs?
Have you tried making a new playlist of say 20 songs or albums that do not contain selections that have frozen previously to check if freezing condition persists?
Are the music selections that are freezing up Qobuz furnished selections or are they music selections stored on your attached USB drive?
Have you tried non-audiophile USB cable from USB drive to the X1?
Have you tested RJ45 ethernet cable to the X1 in lieu of fiber to the X1 to see if freezing still occurs? I am not saying fiber is a problem per se, but in interest of checking all connections, may be worthwhile.
Have you tried taking the EtherRegen out of system chain to check if freezing still occurs?

I am far from an expert in these things, and appreciate how frustrating this must be for you. I read that you believe the difficulties began with firmware or app upgrade. I suspect that may be coincidental with something else at play in the system. Our systems are commonly very complex in connections and devices in the chain. I have found I have caused issues for myself when adding/removing a component or cabling in the system by inadvertently loosening a connection elsewhere. I really like my X1, but moved it in my system so I can more easily access and check connections to it that the overhang roof in back made difficult for me. I have an EtherRegen as well, but not currently in use. I had an issue with a particular RJ45 ethernet cable to it causing an issue due to grounded connectors at both ends. I chased that problem for many hours before isolating it to that cable. The cable works fine in other locations, but not to my ER. I generally control the Lumin App from my desktop Apple computer not in the music room, but do at times use Apple phone or iPad for this. However, I like the larger screen of my desktop for easier finding of selections and options. Probably not a possible issue, but I would suggest comparing all the setting of your controlling devices-- phone and tablets and desktop/laptop to each other if you use for the Lumin App to make sure they all agree on all the settings.

Best of luck

You're not alone. I have a Lumin T3 and have had this same issue since around July of this year. When I stream Tidal via the Lumin app, all app control functions freeze during or right after the 8th track of a playlist (approximately 30-35 minutes). At least the music continues to play. I found that if I hit pause or any other app control and then close the app, reopen it and wait a few seconds, the app will then close on its own. When I reopen it again, all of the app controls are restored. I've been through all of the trouble shooting and fixes prescribed by Lumin without results. Their final answer was that they hadn't received that complaint from anyone else and that it was most likely an internet issue on my end. I've had my internet provider at my house three times, had upgraded cabling run to the house, and had the signal strength checked in every room of the house where we use wi-fi. Every room checked good and we have had no streaming issues with any of our smart TVs or other audio streamers that we use. My conclusion is that the Lumin app is and has been wonky for some time and Lumin doesn't have a solution for it. Maybe it's an issue with the app/streamer interface on a certain percentage of their network players? I prefer the sound quality of the Lumin app over Tidal Connect and wish that a real solution to this issue was found. It's a fantastic component when the app works.
