Official RMAF 2017 Photos and Comments

Thank you for the gratitude for the work at the shows. At RMAF 2017 there was such a positive energy, positive vibe across all the rooms and floors. I'm not sure if it was the awesome hotel renovations, the great selection of manufacturers or what, but it was a real fun show and fun times. Lots of smiling faces everywhere.

There were many great sounding rooms and I'm not sure if it had anything to do with the renovations, but seemingly better sound than in past years.

We got to hear some pretty awesome systems and it was terrific to connect with so many Audioshark and Suncoast Audio friends.

Can't wait to go again next year.

You’re done already?! :D

Great job on the photos; next time you attend, though, you really should not miss Sunday. I’ve only been to a handful of audio shows in the last few years, but at every one the best sound and by far the most enjoyable day as a whole has been Sunday.

Well, I spent 2.5 hours here today. There is only a couple of hours left. To stay all day Sunday, would mean taking another day to travel home.

Thank you so much for posting these photos and videos. Do you ever make it out to Axpona? This year it will be at a new venue and should be absolutely outstanding.

Hi - I go every year. Can't wait for the next one. This years Axpona was outstanding. I hope MBL brings the 101 xTremes again. [emoji41]

Somewhat true, but if it were a choice of skipping Friday or skipping Sunday, I know which I would do. More to the point, perhaps, is that no show I have been to (2 RAMF, 2 THE) can be adequately experienced even in 3 days. But if one is hitting several shows every year things probably work out differently.

Very interesting to see ESS at RMAF with their new ESS AMT Series speakers. Those large ones are the AMT-12, and quite reasonably priced at $4499.00 a pair in Walnut, Cherry, or Ebony. I would be very curious how the newest Heil Air Motion Transformer sounds in this floor stander with a 12" woofer and 12" passive radiator. The speaker's sensitivity is rated 98dB, crossover at 800Hz, and the frequency response is rated 30-23KHz +/- 3dB.

Back in 1980 a good friend of mine owned a pair of bookshelf ESS 2-way speakers, 10" woofer with the Heil Air Motion Transformer. I remember the pair being good sounding speakers. I would be curious to hear how the newest version of ESS AMT Series speakers sound.

Did anyone attending RMAF this year get the opportunity to hear the ESS AMT-12 speakers?

ESS has been showing these speakers or something similar for the past few years. They were perhaps a little better than I remember their old speakers sounding, but I never liked those and didn’t especially care for their new ones. A show environment may not be the best audition, though.

What a wonderful show! The rooms that I spent the most time in were:
1. MSB Reference DAC, monoblocks and YG Acoustics Sonja
2. Esoteric N-01, K-01X, G-01X and Canton speakers
3. Vandersteen speakers and VTL components
4. Soulution, Air Tight amps and Piega Speakers
5. ELAC components and speakers
6. Avant-garde and Bergman turntable
7. Gryphon components and speakers

Ken- what did you think of Vandy on VTL vs. the more typical ARC combination?

Hi Keith,

I thought the VTL components sounded excellent on the Vandersteen 7 Mk2 and Sub 9. However, I prefer the ARC REF10 preamp and Vandersteen M7-HPA monoblocks due to their timbral purity in the midrange and treble and expansive soundstage.

Best,
Ken
