NuVista 800's in the shop

Ralph, the Nu-Vista is a fantastic piece of kit. I listened at David's place driving the Dali Epicon 8's and was very impressed. I brought it home and listened to it with the D3's and it confirmed my thoughts. It has a great soundstage, depth, width, and instrument separation. The only problem with my system was that it didn't pair well with the D3's in the bass department, simply too much bass. Everything else was perfect, and if not for contributing too much bass into my room, I would buy one in a minute. I liked the Dali/Nu Vista combo so much, that I will bring that setup back to my house and compare it to my present system.

Just that previous NuVista models were limited edition. Is this series going to be different?

We all know Michael has no quarms about using different amplifier types, Class A, ultra high power Class AB, Nu Vista, class A again. the original nu vista pre amp sounded pretty good at the time.

BTW, The NuVista 800 is made in Taiwan - even if MF don't mention it anywhere in their literature?

Anyone even vaguely familiar with the precipitous collapse in UK manufacturing over the last 40 years and the underlying reasons for that will I think, be delirious that the NuVista is not Made in the UK . Their original TriVista models were and while wonderful sonically , fit-finish were something else altogether.

Fit and finish and overall build quality is incredible. Not sure where it's made and don't care. Why all the negativity towards a model you haven't seen, touched or listened to in person? Do some research and you will find out why they were limited addition. Don't just assume things

Sorry - are you talking to me ? I haven't said anything negative whatsoever about the NuVista 800's - my comment was that the TriVista integrated (which I owned) had fit & finish issues. And that I don't care whether it's made in Taiwan - it will definitely be of a higher quality than if it was made in the same way as the TriVista was (in the UK).

The point , which appears to have escaped you is that if we are happy to buy iPhones made in China and Android phones made in Korea, why should we care if a product is Made in Taiwan ?

Best to read my post more carefully I think?

David...two questions:

1) Do you know if Musical Fidelity is going to come out with a digital source (CD/SACD/DAC) in the Nuvista 800 line with nuvistor tubes like they did the last time around in the late 1990s early 2000s?

2) Do you carry the T&A PA 3000 HV integrated amp? If so, have you compared the Nuvista 800 to the T&A integrated and how does it compare? I know the T&A is at a much higher price point ($20K??) but I would be interested in your thoughts on the comparison if you indeed carry the HV line from T&A.

Thanks,

Cyril

The T+A HV series integrated is 16800 but I only have the MP3000 DAC. The build quality is close to the T+A. Not sure on a NuVista source yet. It would be fun to compare to the T+A integrated with the NuVista

Well that is a disappointment. Outside of bass control and in comparison to your reference Classe/Hegel combo how did the NuVista rank on sound-stage (width/depth), resolution and instrumental separation? Thanks Mark.

From what people say, it seems there are few amps that don't drive the Raidho speakers into bass problems.

Ralph - VAC phi200's. Nothing worked as well with the D3's as a pair of VAC phi200's.

With your D2's - maybe a VAC i160....but I still say phi200's.

That's great recommendation by Mike, the 160i is a sweet unit , capable of driving a lot of speakers and sounds more powerful than it's rating suggests. It's all about the current not the watts......

There always seems great synergy with the Jeff Rowland gear - the Continuum S2 is a lovely piece & sounds wonderful with Raidho's. That's what Raidho themselves use so frequently at shows and I believe in their own demo system.

I had the Rowland S2 on my D3's for several months. I enjoyed it and could live happily with it, but I felt the vac phi200's were at another level on the D3's. More musical, more natural sounding and by far, the best amp for the D3's that I tried. But the S2 given its continual road show with Raidho, is definitely the safe bet. Just don't expect much from its Phonostage if you opt for that over the DAC....and try not to laugh at the remote.

A couple of our members had a shoot out with MF6500i, Hegel H300, Naim and Rowland with D3's. Both Mark and Jock chose the 6500i as the clear winner to their ears. Integrated's typically work well with Raidho because they just don't have the balls to produce the bass, attack, slam or play with authority like most separates. The Raidho speakers actually do not mind this because they give you such a full sound to start with. This is what separates the NuVista from most integrated's, it doesn't sound like an integrated. It has plenty of slam, attack authority and great big balls. It sounds like a tube pre with solid state monos. Everybody that has demoed this unit, that is one if the first things they say, it does not sound like an integrated.!this is why it didn't work well with Mark's D3's. The NuVista will drive any speaker on the planet with very little effort. You really have to listen to it to understand what I'm saying.

I completely agree with David, the Nu Vista just doesn't sound like an integrated, it really sounds different than any other amp that I've heard. I absolutely love the thing, and will do another in-home demo with the Dali Epicon 8's.

If anyone is looking for an integrated amp, or any type of amp, they should really give this one a listen, it's just an outstanding piece of gear.

Sorry I am a bit late to the party as I just stumbled onto this thread. Can anyone who has heard both compare the sound of the NV800 to the kw500? thanks.

I noticed that UK dealers are offering a full credit trade up allowance on the trade in of any MF amp towards the purchase of the NV800. Anyone know if that offer applies to the USA as well?
