Nord One Up Ncore NC500 amps, Class D ready for prime time .....

They are awesome. Dynamic and detailed, with a huge soundstage. They do need stands, or the bass will be to heavy (on carpet at least). I could not be happier. But my excitement will be curtailed soon, as I have some Zellatons on their way. Those should be eye openers !!!

My amps were just delivered to me here at the opera. It's going to be a very long day at work! Only 12 days from order to delivery, very quick. Thanks Colin.

Well I had the something wrong with my eye bit...I didn't see my ass going into work knowing the Nords were coming.

Right out of the box these things are jammin! What a fun amp! They sound like an amp that should weigh about 60 pounds more than they do, which in my case is a welcome reprieve from the heavy lifting. Looking forward to seeng how these break in.

Congrats to Collin for a job well done! And thanks to Joe for bringing these amps to my attention.

My amps were also delivered today and it took couple of minutes to set it up. They replaced my 100lb monster Pass amps. Powering from cold, my initial impression after playing couple of songs is that these amps are a killer. I have the SI installed and also got the Sparkos along with it. Not sure if I will ever use the Sparkos since the SI sounds very good with the Cary pre. The amp runs cool which was one of the important factor (and my listening room doesn't have air cond) - so no more sweating. There is nothing that I know would compare these at its price point. I will post later about the sound quality after some initial breakin but so far I am a happy camper. Bravo Collin - an incredible job done.

What do you expect after 300hr break in ?

Congrats guys, I'm jealous. But if I left work now 700 people wouldn't get paid this week and the show wouldn't go on!

I would also like to thank all the members here in the forum, without there feedback, I wouldn't have known about the Nords. AS rocks :coolyeah:

Good to hear they are making a positive impression. Like you I don't have air con (as it is not as necessary in the UK) but with a full set of SETs it can get really hot in the summer. I am not surprised that with a good Cary pre-amp the SI is sounding so good. After break in I found that a certain 'tightness' in the sound completely disappeared and the music flowed really well and a small edge disappeared making the sound smoother and instead of just being real they became spookily real. The number of times I said 'what the dam was that' increased. For me the changes were not dramatic but most welcome.

I also found they needed about 30 mins to warm up fully after being off for a day or so. I leave them on permanently. I think I can handle 36w of heat even in the middle of summer.

There is more to come.

I am not sure about some of the others, but I want happy listeners. I am ecstatic when I find great gear at normal/sane prices. Hope everyone loves theirs. I do.

Enjoy!

Tomy,

Ha!

Sooooooo happy you like them. After break in they will be even more amazing. Enjoy the ride and enjoy the tunes. That's all I ask.

You know with the way Colin and his crew puts the blue paper with the Nord sticker in the middle on top of the amps it did feel like it was my birthday! :congrats:

Though minor, the only complain that I have is the speaker binding post. My speaker cables are thick and heavy and the notch of the post is oriented downwards. So inserting them is a pain but luckily the 3" maple board made it a bit easier moving the back of amp further to edge. I would have preferred something different but really minor at this point.

From looking at the photos of the inside looks like they would be easy to swap out with no soldering required.

Are you talking about the speaker terminals ? Which photos shows that ? I haven't opened it up yet, so don't know how they are wired.

Did anybody experiment with replacing the stock fuse ? what is the rating ? I have +ive impression in my DAC and preamp.

My only complaint too, I have some Cardas CPBP I am going to see if they will fit.

Go to the photos of the amp at the online store section. There are at least two photos of the insides that zoom in when you put the mouse arrow over them. Look to be standard nut on the inside mounting. No reason the right model of Vampire, Cardas, Via Blue or WBT shouldn't fit. Should only take a few minutes. I can't tell from photos if there is a spade or ring lug on the end of the wire or if the bare wire is threaded or wrapped around the post and then fastened with the second inside nut.

I'm going to try a Furutech TF fuse in these. They're reasonably priced and have worked in other components. According to the stock fuse I popped out the rating on these are a small slow blow 5a.
