Nord One Up Ncore NC500 amps, Class D ready for prime time .....

I had to flip my binding post around to hook-up from the top not very hard, might even put some different post on.

Cheers Guys, really appreciated we have been really busy over the last week since the Brexit vote and the weak pound. Been working hard to get all the orders out in promised time. And finally tomy2 somebody likes the blue paper! that's why its there to make you feel good. Whilst I appreciate they are not the last word in HiFi bling and case finish, given the tight margin we try and make them look as good as possible by being smart and using quality components where it matters. I would love to offer a solid billet type case option with a really nice design possibly polished aluminium finish.

As for the binding posts they are a quality CHK item we picked them for not being Audiophile expensive but well made and branded, would they work better with the spade opening pointing upwards? If so I will install like that from now on let me know. If that works you just need to remove the first nut, loosen the second enough to rotate the post through 180 the hole is squares ish to stop rotation. Be careful to make sure the part you turn is seated correctly with no gap between it and the body before you tighten as it wont rotate properly.

And again a big thank you I really could not do this if you did not appreciate them its been a massive amount of work to get to this point. I very much hope we can continue to bring high quality sound products at good prices with low overheads and selling directly to astute savvy customers. I'm still amazed by these amps only tonight I listed to this https://open.spotify.com/track/3r51rHk70Nl3V7UPJbfXs5 the drums were just tight and well physical! Superbly recorded live album. Enjoy.

Colin,

I think a stylish case would be a good option. I am not sure about polished aluminum. Too easy to fingerprint and too much like a mirror. Also subject to swirl marks from cleaning.

+1
Would you also consider for the existing owners if we can buy these case separately and swap it out ourselves ?

Thanks for the tip. Its just that the inlet notch for the spade is positioned too awkwardly. Usually, with these kind of binding post, I have seen that the notch is slightly angled, maybe around 30deg from the down position. I think its for the very reason with thick speaker cables, they are angled. Moving it to the top position is also not desirable, as it could put a lot of tension on the wire itself and the wires poking out of the amp doesn't look nice as well

Placing my amps on some iso-pads allowed a little extra bend radius for the cables entering the binding posts from the bottom.

Just so I know what I got. This is the SI 994 op amp and where I swap for a Sparkos if I wanted to?

Thanks Pete (if the comment was for me?).

Yes Tomy2, that's the dude. Be mindful of the Pin 1 location that's noted on the bottom side of the bottom most layer of the SI994 module. That's the same "corner" that you'd align the Sparkos op amp's Pin 1 which is notated on the top side of the top most layer of the Sparkos module.

Visit each op amps respective web pages / data sheets BEFORE you remove them just to confirm Pin 1 notations and alignment on the Nord buffer boards.

Speaking of which, Colin: how much trouble would it be to mark the Pin 1 location either on the Buffer PCB board or the socket so that it stands out like a sore thumb?

Another happy camper!

I can't be super critical because I've changed so many things in my system recently but I can say:

Bass: Wow, I finally have some. I've been passively tri-amping my speakers with a Threshold S-300 MkII on the woofers for sometime and always complained about how lean my sound was. No More! Ironically though, great bass is the last attribute I'll need from the amps with my soon to arrive Martin Logan Impression 11A's and their dual powered 8" woofers.

Mids & Highs: Just as nice and probably much better than my VTL MB-225's. Can't say more because of the recent addition of a MicroRendu. However, it will be nice not to have the tube heat here in the high desert without air conditioning.

So without any hours on the Nords, using cheap Canare XLR's also without any break-in, using the supplied power cords, I'm getting the best sound I've ever had from my system.

Thanks Colin & Bruno too!

Bob

Left the Nords playing all day while at work and they already sound better than they did yesterday. Although the stock binding posts were just fine for my cables I couldn't resist switching them out for a set of WBT's I had laying around...
