Nord One Up Ncore NC500 amps, Class D ready for prime time .....

Jerrys popping was the Burson V5. We started having failures with these, too late to stop Jerrys going out. Mailed him to tell him the potential situation. Had Sonic Imagery ship a pair of 994's directly to Jerry FOC. We no longer supply Burson V5 I have yet to remove them from the website.

Temp wise 21C-22C room they run at around 36C. The amps consume around 36W at idle little more on full power. The modules are thermally and mechanically attached to the case which acts as a heat sink unlike Class A A/B amps which have a large heat sink with all the power transistors attached to. This heat sink removes the heat directly out of the case. So our case is one large Heat sink hence its warm.

Thank you for the information. Would that be 36W/monoblock?

Sorry should of been clearer 18W per channel.
As to the 1 Ohm scinnies, I'll get back to you on that one. Recommend would be based on knowledge or experience of a particular situation which I have not had.

Thanks Colin I am reassured. The amps had no problems driving my Audionote Es (8 ohms, no low impedance) and the Townsend Glastonbury (fairly benign load). The rack yesterday was a little enclosed and it was warm in the room with a bit of sunshine on the windows. Yes sun in the UK :D and during Wimbledon.

My stereo Nord is running around 87° (30c) and this is listening to music, not bad I don't think. I did finally settle on the Sparkos, more relaxed sounding with a little warmth. The 994 are great sounding especially for critical listening, more true to the source I think.

Also..I took the Sparkos out of my dac I use for headphones and put in Burson V5 (have duals & singles) and they are defected, crackling in my headphones terribly. Need to send them all back but afraid it will be a ongoing problem, I've been hearing a lot of complaints with the V5 not the older ones.

Colin, Thank you for the clarification.

As a previous Apogee owner (Mini Grands) I had a friend with 1-ohm Scintillas and followed the Apogee users group forum closely. The 1-ohm Scintillas were legendary and frequently referred to as "amp killers". They might pose the ultimate challenge.

Mike,

Is the popping issue still resolved?

Yes. 100%. I am going to shut them down again shortly, wait a few minutes and try again just to be sure. Very weird and I'm confident something was lose inside.

Thanks for the tips.

Good deal Mike, you bet, glad to assist.

It sounds like my popping problem may have been a lose connection, instead of the Bursons ?? Once I installed the 994's, there was no popping at turn-on. So I have let them play continuously for the last 16 days.....with no problems. I turned them off and gave them to Mike. He immediately experienced popping. So I am hoping it was a loose connection somewhere. They should be close to broken in. They are close to 400 hours. They improved nicely once warmed up for a few hours.....and then got decidedly better after about 200 hours. I was playing them on a pair of JBL 4367 speakers. They do VERY well on these speakers, as I think can really appreciate the drive these amps have. So hopefully they won't be popping anymore. It will make you soil your pants. Especially when you have mega expensive speakers hooked up. You are a brave soul Mike....hooking them up to the $70k-$80k+ Avante's. I put a pair of $200 speakers on them to start.

Not to derail the thread, so how are you liking the JBL 4367's Jerry?

I just want to see it. I absolutely love mine.

He feels the same way. We talked about it on Friday. But hopefully Jerry will chime in here.

Joe, you should see Jerry's horn speaker collection. Drool worthy.

Jerry gave me a little taste of what he has, amazing collection.
