New Record Shelves Acoming!

So what ru doing for shelves ? I love Boltz. Infinitely expandable and never sag.

Considered them and totally agree but was a function of the number of records they would hold vs. price. Actually I use Boltz for the few measly CDs, SACDs, etc. that are the apt. :)

Do you have the room for a full fledged rack system to fit all of your records ? Maybe you need to cull the herd....as hard as that might be...;)

i'm doing it now, i've got a few hundred put aside for horse trading. my old collection had over 8,000, the LPs i actually played more than once was roughly half that and half of those were what id consider essential. I put an arbitrary cap on my new collection at 2,000 but im closing fast and will prob stretch it to 2500 by new years:S

over the last few years I've gone from 12,000++ Lps to around 7500-8000. I gave away approximately 2000 to Goodwill mostly stuff I got thru a few collection purchases. then 6 months ago i sold 'fairly cheaply' another 2000 to a couple of 'vinyl newbie' friends (after I first asked my children who declined)......lots of fairly nice records but taking lots of room and mostly duplicates in depth. the records I have left are ones I listen to. I gave myself more room in my upstairs in my barn for my workout area and allowed for future growth as I acquire new pressings. I had been feeling like I had to stop purchasing, which is just not healthy. new Lps are essential for my mental health......I'm always getting new digital files but it's not the same.

5 years ago my view was 'how many records can i acquire?'.....now it's 'what will I reasonably listen to?'. there is no wrong way to do it, only being comfortable with your approach and finding that happy place.

maybe my next step will be to go from 8000 to 2000.;) i'll keep my mind open.

I don't want to think about counting to 8000...lol

Well when you've been collecting since the late '70s (not counting the 2500 or so college albums that got rid of when moving after a divorce -not to mention my old kitties thought they were great for scratching), one tends to accumulate a few slabs of vinyl. I remember the days at the old Princeton Record Exchange when they had this stuff in boxes on the floor near the register and couldn't give it away. Or the old days of J&R and Discophile downtown with their shelves flush with European imports. Or the opening of Tower Records in the Village when they took stock from all their other stores that didn't sell and we walked out with shopping carts full of records. Like the almost complete collection of the Film Music Series. :) Yep, that's how you get boatloads of records. (Oh and Chad, Michael, Joe and Ron also contributed and continue to add to the piles! :)

Day 2 of the great record project begins!

I'll live vicariously through you :D. I agree with Mike, it is therapy (and an addiction) the sick part of it all, I know all the 'best' routes when attending business meetings in LA they all happen to run by a used record store:snicker: ahh screw it... 3,000 vinyls, here we come!

I drool over these shelves. not sure if they are production or custom but they're awesome!

Best invention. The Vinyl District app!

The major storage for my15K albums are my Per Madsen units (standard unit). I started buying from Per when he was just beginning, all the way until he retired. I have 110 units which hold about 100 records each. Then other shelving, mostly the big Ikea Besta bookcases which are 14+ inches deep and 76 inches high and 24 inches wide. They hold 6 rows of records, rock solid, no sages.

How did he close up shop with you buying so many storage units? ;)
