New Magico speakers arriving 04/2015!

Here is the latest tweet from Munich from respected fellow member & CEO of AV Showrooms, Peter Breuninger! :audiophile:...

Here is a freeze frame from the listening session. Tight controlled sound with a nice degree of airiness. The S7s sounded very smooth and natural. The opposite of hifi.

If I recall correctly, the Q7 II and the Mini II (and perhaps the M6) are the only revised speakers that Magico has produced. There seems to be a lot of discussion about an S5 II and a Q5 II. I wonder if Magico will not just come out with new speakers that incorporate more of the M Project technologies and develop a new line. There are so many models now. I'd prefer to see a whole new line with curved and narrow baffle, curved sides, new drivers/crossovers and midrange enclose with outrigger feet. It could be called the "R" line.

On the other hand, the two distinct S and Q lines do cater to slightly different buyers who prefer one sound to the other, and appreciate the price differences.
I think you're right Peter. I recall Alon commenting in his interview with Alan Circom for HiFi Plus that the M Pro would influence future Magico loudspeakers, but that he was not yet sure if they would use carbon fibre in other Magico speakers, saying "I don’t know yet. It’s a rather costly and complicated process to include. It’s definitely something we’d like to include, but there are other considerations aside from wishes!".

My guess is that Magico will keep using CNC-machined aluminium cabinets in the Q series with filter down technology from the M Pro (incl: drivers, crossover & possibly outriggers) for now, whilst the older S series models will be inevitably be updated along the lines of the S7. I've heard Alon comment that the reason for releasing the Q7 Mk II was to ensure it remains Magico's flagship dynamic loudspeaker, so I don't think we're going to see a new series above the Q series with curved carbon/alu cabinets any time soon.

No doubt however, Magico will continue to experiment with carbon fibre and develop commercial partnerships until such time as it becomes commercially viable to use curved carbon/aluminium cabinets in future Q & even S series speakers. One thing is for sure, the beneficiary of Alon's immense talent and passion will be us audiophiles and music lovers:yahoo1:.

I sure hope Magico keeps researching/expermenting with different materials and techniques. They certainly don't mind trying things and it would be a shame for them to stop now.

I dont understand why people expect good sound at audio shows.
1. In 90% of cases the equipment is not break-in.
2. Large rooms with bare walls also lose any sense, especially with fast and transparent speakers like Magico.
3. Magicos doesnt sound good with Soulution and Constellation. Super fast neutral electronics with super fast neutral speakers? Where is the pleasure of listening? I bet that after 2hours everybody could feel tired. For total tragedy we need Nordost cables :D

So... for the next years I would recommend A class amplifiers from Vitus or Gryphon and cared about acoustic. Then Magico will show true potential for prospective customers.

I would add that Magico speakers also sound particularly good with Pass Labs amplifiers.

Not to mention they really aren't "rooms" at Munich.

To give us an idea of how deeply subjective this "hobby" is , that was not my impression at all . I owned the XA200.5's with my Q3's and to my ears , it was the fourth ranking setup (out of 4 choices) . The best in my room was the Lamm M1.2 Reference ( also a Class A amp) , Vitus RS100 (A/B) then the VAC Phi200's . The Pass amps badly lagged the others. Outside of some of the owner systems on the Forums, its an unusual pairing that I haven't seen at Shows , Dealer demos or at Magico.

Comments from Mono and Stereo's Munich show report:

"We’re always wanted hankering for the news and highly anticipate to experience flagships and statement products from few established and renowned brands. Magico is surely among the top. Everyone is expecting something special and in the league of their own when it comes to this brand. This years Magico highlight should be Magico S7 speakers. I’ve tried to find the virtues and returned for the listening many times. But! This was not only my comment, but repeated in and contemplated during the show with people calling me in rechecking of their conclusions.

Sadly S7 speakers presentation and sound was wrong. A debacle. Wrong on so many fronts. One of non helping things was clearly an issue of wrong phase, that was corrected. Still… Even after the new outcome and 2-3 days burring/settling in these speakers performance were simply nowhere near of what not only me but most of attendees expected to be. To keep the things in the right perspective I’ll give an objective comparing. Soulution and Magico Q7 brought the expect performance on a certain level and I’ve wrote that on my first days direct covering.

For what Magico represent in industry and for what it should as one of the industry leaders this was for me a clear UN-HIGHLIGHT of the show. They would go better with a silent presentation as did Tidal with their new uber expensive flagship Lassoluta speakers."

You are 100% wrong here. Those are the only amplification that I have heard that gets the most of of Magico's.

Myles, I am sure there are others that I haven't heard. I can tell you that Aesthetix, BALabo, Spectral, and VAC are some that didn't cut the mustard.

Wow. Definitive , judgemental statements from on high...... the phrase "in my opinion" needs multiple insertion points here .

That's interesting because Alon, Peter A here and many leading Magico dealers including Goodwins and Overture use Spectral. And others including David here swear by Vitus.

Ok, so we have different taste. Interesting, you have DAG amps with Wilsons and you enjoy Magico/Soulution or Magico/Constellation match?
Dont get me wrong, Im familiar with Magico and Soulution and these one of the best gears on the market. But not together in one system. With Magicos I would try some strong but sweet and warm A class amp. For Soulution... hmm... Focal, Wilson, Raidho.
But Like I said, fortunately we all have different taste and ears :)

As I noted, I haven't heard every amp with Magico. I assume Vitus would appear to be a good match after hearing them with other top speakers.

I've heard Magico's with a lot of amps, including my own. My favorites were Vitus and Pass. Soulution was also excellent. I never got the Constellation/Magico pairing. It didn't float my boat. VAC was good, but not on the level of Vitus and Pass on the Magico's. But VAC on Focal is SUPERB! My D'Agostino amps were very good as well on Magico. My Mc 601's were not, but on my Wilson's, they won our amp shootout! So, synergy is everything. You just never know.

A little hidden gem with Magico is the Devialet.

Magico M Projects with Vitus class A or Pass class A would be my ultimate Magico setup. I would imagine my Pass XS amps with M Projects would be outstanding.

Where's Michael Kim when we need him!!
