New Magico speakers arriving 04/2015!

The S5 MK II would be nice if it were possible to upgrade existing S5s, for a reasonable price. If that were to happen then once I am ready to upgrade I think I will recreate my Magico moment from last summer the weekend before the upgrade. This time I will have my SPL meter at hand. :)

I doubt it would be possible to upgrade existing S5's to a future S5 Mk II as Alon would likely use the separated top module & integrated outriggers etc. At the very least, i'd expect the new cabinet to include learnings from the M-Pro and S7, including integrated outriggers. However the price of admission would be much more accessible than the S7, creating an upgrade path for existing S5 owners.

Do we know yet whether the top S7 is a separate module, or are we still speculating? In my mind separate modules create another source of vibrations, and Magico appears obsessed with eliminating cabinet vibrations.

Think your wait on S5v2s gonna be awhile. Q5/3 much older ...
You could be right Keith, though it would be easier to refresh the rest of the S series with the release of the S7. In any case, patience is a virtue :audiophile:.

Bud, of course commentary on the top module is pure speculation at this stage, and will probably remain so until the first reviews come out. But in my mind the separate extrusions for the top module at the very least suggest a quasi separated module, otherwise there would be no functional reason for doing so. And I doubt Magico would have designed separate extrusions for the midrange/tweeter for purely cosmetic reasons.

Interesting. I know we will arrive at the same destination, but I feel the exact opposite. :)

I think the separator on the S7 is like the sides of the Q7, cosmetic.

Can whoever is at this German show find out if the S7 is a one or two module speaker?

Bud, on the basis that form follows function at Magico, I'd stick with my original theory that the separate extrusions suggest atleast a quasi separated top module, but we'll see.

In any case, however the design plays out, by all reports Magico have been wholly successful in designing a great sounding loudspeaker :audiophile:.

I noticed this comment on WBF from Industry Expert Philip O'Hanlon. I'm sure he wouldn't mind me re-posting it here..

I heard the S7 yesterday briefly here in Munich driven by Constellation electronics, system sounded v relaxed & musical. Irv Gross was at the helm, playing digital files. Certainly worth checking out. Retail expected to be $65k.

I much prefer the narrower front baffle of the M Project to the new S7. The latter just looks fat from the front, IMO. The two panels in the rear are pretty interesting. I wonder why they are so thick.

I also found the wide front baffle cumbersome looking. It was wider that it was deep.

However, I was told by Peter McaKay (former Krell export manager, who is now with Magico) that this was a preproduction form only and that the final speaker will be narrower.

We will see. Hope he was right.

Thanks for that info Adam  Given the benefit of a relatively narrow front baffle as used in the M Pro, I would think that Magico would apply those learnings to future products. Cheers!

If I recall correctly, the Q7 II and the Mini II (and perhaps the M6) are the only revised speakers that Magico has produced. There seems to be a lot of discussion about an S5 II and a Q5 II. I wonder if Magico will not just come out with new speakers that incorporate more of the M Project technologies and develop a new line. There are so many models now. I'd prefer to see a whole new line with curved and narrow baffle, curved sides, new drivers/crossovers and midrange enclose with outrigger feet. It could be called the "R" line.

On the other hand, the two distinct S and Q lines do cater to slightly different buyers who prefer one sound to the other, and appreciate the price differences.

I heard from a friend that the S7's didn't sound good at all. He said the Q7 mk2's were "just ok", but the S7's failed to impress him in the least. Maybe they needed more break in? Was it the room? Electronics? Or maybe they aren't quite ready yet? Has anyone else heard anything? Would like to hear from others who were actually there.

It seems Hans Wetzel at Soundstage was impressed by the S7's...

Similar to some of the views from Axpona re: Q7's??? :hide:
