MSB Launches Two New DAC’s

Sorry for being selfish. I need to decide by the end of the weekend to buy the Nucleus + or the Innuos (because my MSB Premier is being delivered mid-late July and it will be a 2-3 week delivery time for the Innuos). I am leaning quite heavily towards Innuos (the first time I have deviated from Mike’s recommendation - so I am nervous [emoji16]). Does anyone think I am making a mistake or am I dancing in the margins?

I would use the ethernet out on the Innuos. It is one of the key attractions for me. So the chain would go (all ethernet connections):

MSB Premier <—— Innuos <—— Router

I like that picture.

If I am not mistaken, a Nucleus would look like:

MSB Premier <—— Router <—— Nucleus
 
Is the CPU in the Innous sufficient enough to handle DSP and the future Roon features coming? I doubt it.

Tidal's business model has been a complete failure since Jay-Z took over and consequently is losing a lot of money. The company hasn't convinced folks that supporting its more artist (and video) centric model is worthwhile. So concerns for Tidal's viability going forward are justified imo.

Well, we chose Tidal in the first place is streaming quality over Spotify. Saying “all of us” move to Spotify if it had 16/44.1 doesn’t make sense at all.

I don’t understand why people wants Tidal to fail. Unless you are from Spotify, you’re just being a hater. Since the first day I use Tidal, I have had no issue whatsoever. To the genres I listen to, the content is super rich and now I mainly stream from Tidal, at home, at desk and at the wheel.

I thought the Innuos is Roon ready and is certified Roon Core (but the processor is not grunty enough to do DSD upsampling, which unless someone tells me I am missing a trick here, is not important to me) and the MSB renderer is a Roon end point. So all good? I don’t know enough about the technical side to know if this is a complete Roon system.

The core would be the Innous unless I’m mistaken and it doesn’t have the horsepower to do DSP and future apps in Roon - I THINK.

Innuos goes up to DSD 128 and 32/352. And does MQA. Seems good enough?!
 
I went with a powerful gaming PC. The PC will run Roon Core and HQPlayer and will be powerful enough to run the most demanding DSP. It may cost a bit more than a Nucleus+ but I felt that it will be (more likely to be) future proof. Plus I can always use it to play some games if I ever wanted to.

I don’t think anyone wants Tidal to fail (certainly not me - I love it). My concern is that if I buy the Nucleus I am locked into Roon and Tidal. That is all.

Sounds great. But I don’t want a ‘computer’. I know the Nucleus and the Innuos are essentially computers, but both have the feel of not being one.

I think the guys at Roon are smart enough to have backup plans.

I don’t think it can handle the advanced DSP functions of Roon nor some of the future features coming.
