Greetings Sharks,
I stumbled across this site some time ago from a random audio search, and I've been lurking ever since. My interests include low-power triodes, horns, and Jazz. More recently, I've rekindled my love of vinyl playback after being out of it for an age. Looking forward to good conversations and audio enlightenment. Cheers!

Jin I welcomed you in another thread but I wanted to ask about you turntable.
I only ever heard the brinkmann balance and even though it was a long time ago it's among the best I ever heard. What do you think of your table and arm?
Brinkmann has always interested me. I don't expect you to not love your table, everyone loves there table lol but I wonder if you have a couple pros and cons.
Thanks and welcome again

Welcome Jin, the Shark is the best!

Hey Steve,
One thing that stood out to me was the super black background. Playing clean vinyl, I actually had a hard time believing I wasn't listening to my digital rig at first. Image focus, resolution, and bass are superb, it was pretty much what I was hoping for. In terms of overall character, it's probably a tad on the dark side of neutral. I'm told the Brinkmanns have a house sound but being a DD, I imagine there are differences between the Balance (I haven't heard the Balance yet). Another thing I love is that while the platter is not low mass (technically it'd be medium mass), it's not so heavy I can't put it on a wall shelf. In terms of isolation, I think my wall shelf beats my Stillpoints rack in that regard.

The arm appears to be built to really high tolerances, but if I were to nitpick I would like better adjustment controls; for example I don't have a dial to adjust VTA; instead there's a set screw and collar to work with. Another thing I would nitpick about the arm is the lack of azimuth adjustment, though luckily the stylus looks dead on perpendicular looking through my digital microscope and Feickert protractor. When I have more time i'll probably double check it with a Fozgometer, but so far nothing sounds off it the least (touch wood).
