I've insured mono amps this way before, and luckily not had to file a claim. Should he have bought 6k of insurance for each amp instead, and what proof of value would Fedex need to pay out the claim?

when you ship expensive heavy stuff you need to ask the questions, I suggest in writing, and see wha the shipper and the insurance company say.
I have seperate rider for my business to cover however they only cover my cost not the sale amount.

So when you ship/receive mono amps do you insure for the entire retail ammount or is it split 50/50?
We are way way beyond taking insurance from UPS or Fedex directly. We use external insurance carriers specializing in all shipping coverage for the millions in shipping we do a year. They also pay fast and don’t fight us….usually. LOL.

Any advice on specialized carriers for those selling used equipment, Mike?

I have some personal experience with lost shipments. I shipped a $150,000 classical guitar of mine and found out on the day of delivery it went missing. I had double insurance: this shipper plus specific musical instrument coverage. Even with that, I was going crazy. We processed the claim and 30 full days after the delivery date, the guitar turned up undamaged in one of their warehouses. The shipping label had fallen off. It was a big box so I never lost hope that it would be found. Hopefully this is the case also for aI heavy item like an amp.
